Inhabitants of northern countries are not particularly surprised with snowy winters and blizzards, but in Iran, winter is relatively mild, and the temperature is rarely below zero degrees Celsius, and snow there is more of a curiosity than commonplace.
All the more surprising is the fact that the most destructive blizzard occurred in this particular country, as a result of which the height of snowdrifts in some places even exceeded the bar of 8 meters.
How it was
This event happened in 1972. On February 3, a cold wind from the Caucasus Mountains brought the first snow charges, which amused the locals.
But the snow did not stop on the same day and only began to intensify until it turned into a powerful blizzard.
Initially, snow was not a concern.
In large cities, they began to actively fight the falling snow and equipment cleared the streets as best they could, but in small villages and mountain auls things were different and most local residents simply locked themselves in their houses in the hope of waiting out the cataclysm.

But the blizzard did not stop and in just three days the snowdrifts in some places reached 8 meters. For comparison, the thickness of the snow cover of 1.5 meters for the whole winter is considered normal for Moscow and the Moscow region, and here in three days it is 8 meters.
It is quite natural that absolutely no one was ready for such an event. In addition, immediately after the snowfall, severe frosts came in, reaching -20 degrees Celsius.
Literally a few days later, the thaw returned, which provoked a severe flood.
As a result, this event went down in history as the most destructive natural disaster in the entire history of observation.
We were not ready for such a snowfall.
