By such a weapon is meant a system that can make decisions without a person, Nolan explained. According to her, if there are many such systems in one area, then there is a possibility of "sudden war", as they will react to each other almost instantly. “In the worst case, a sudden war can mean the destruction of an entire city in a matter of seconds,” said the specialist.
She also compared this situation to crashes on stock exchanges, where automatic algorithms also work. "The difference with military action is that there is no way to install a circuit breaker," Nolan warned, calling for a worldwide ban on such weapons.
In 2015, thousands of engineers and researchers signed an open letter in which they warned about the dangers of using artificial intelligence in the creation of military equipment and the latest weapons systems. They also called for abandoning the use of AI when creating weapons.
