Often on the Internet, we come across one of the most popular statements by adherents of the concrete version, that supposedly traces of crumbling and stratification of granite on architectural monuments indicate that this is not a natural stone, but concrete!..
Example:

We will try to refute this delusion - once and for all. Below are photos from the Aswan quarry in Egypt.

Exfoliated granite layer.
Crumbling granite.
Granite on the columns exfoliates - it is subject to erosion due to prolonged exposure to various natural factors (like any other rock). It looks simple - the detachment of small thin "scales" (almost like a fish). Hence the confusion about the quality of granite processing …
The resulting cavity, after such a detachment of the "scales", an observer who is not deeply aware of this topic (especially from a poor-quality photograph) may well be confusing. And the conclusion that the column was processed by hand, with not polished deep chips, may turn out to be erroneous … Here, as they say: "you need an eye and an eye!" Well, where the eye is not an assistant, we do not hesitate - we use measurements using various precision instruments.
