Pictured: The Valley of the Jugs in China, home to the world's strangest megaliths. The valley of the pitchers stretches from Phonsavan from the southwest to the northeast. At an altitude of about 1000 m above sea level. on the tops of the hills there are about 3000 huge stone jugs from 1 to 3.5 m in height and about 1 m in diameter. Most of all they look like the stone stupas of Baba Yaga. As with all such objects, little is known about the pitchers. Nobody knows where and how they got here, who made them and why.
In Southeast Asia, North Africa, Spain, on the coasts of France and England, and in many other places, strange structures of huge boulders rise. Scientists call them megaliths. These are gigantic, roughly cut stone blocks weighing several hundred tons. Megaliths either stand separately from each other, and then they are called menhirs, or they form complex structures - dolmens and cromlechs. The gigantic blocks are not held together by any cement, but they are so carefully fitted that even the blade of a pocket knife cannot be inserted between them. Scientists have been fighting over the mystery of megaliths for a very long time, but the main questions still remain unanswered
Undeciphered inscriptions
It is noticed that megaliths gravitate towards the sea coasts, and the farther from the sea, the smaller the buildings become. The most famous megalithic monuments are located near the French city of Carnac on the southern coast of Brittany. The main attraction of Karnak itself is a huge megalith named after St. Michael. According to researchers, this building initially served as a burial vault. Later, the megalith was covered with earth, and a chapel was erected on the top of the hill formed in its place in the Middle Ages.
And to the north of the town on the field there are 2,935 huge menhirs up to 5 meters high. The stones stand vertically, and on some of them scientists have found embossed inscriptions that they could not decipher.
In general, the region of Karnak and further north of the town is very rich in megalithic buildings. These are Mane-Kerioned with a long covered gallery, and the dolmen de Rodessek, and the huge menhir Old Mill, which weighs more than 200 tons, and then whole fields of menhirs and ring-shaped cromlechs, the largest of which, cromlech Menek, consists of 70 menhirs and is almost 100 meters in diameter.
On the territory of the former USSR, megaliths are found in the Crimea and the Caucasus.
Ancient sources do not mention …
It is believed that the most ancient of the megaliths were built at the end of the Stone Age. However, there is still no scientifically substantiated methodology for determining the age of these giant structures. According to archaeologists, the megaliths, next to which the sites of ancient people were discovered, were built by our ancestors who lived in the Stone Age. The age of the site is determined by the found jewelry, weapons and bones. But it is quite obvious that these factors may not be related to each other!
According to scientists, the oldest dolmen was built about 6,000 years ago in Ireland, and the youngest - about 3,000 years ago in Italy. However, despite the fact that by this time numerous works in Greek had already appeared, and India had presented the Vedas to the world, no written sources have yet been found that reveal the secrets of the megaliths. Who built them and why? And how could people in those distant times move huge boulders and stack them on top of each other with such precision?
Stone books
The Karnak Museum of Prehistoric Culture has diagrams and drawings showing how the megaliths were supposedly built. We saw the same drawings in textbooks of ancient history: hundreds of half-naked people with the help of ropes and levers move stone blocks on rollers, then with the help of ropes and blocks they set them vertically. Having no other reliable versions, we agree with this.
But why were such monumental buildings erected? Researchers are divided on this score. Some believe that the megaliths were built for the performance of religious rites and the burial of the dead. However, no burials were found in any cromlech or dolmen.
Other scientists, mainly astronomers, have proven that some of the megaliths were used for astronomical observations of the Sun, Moon and other planets. Menhirs made it possible to fix the points of setting and rising of the Sun and Moon on the days of the equinoxes and solstices. But it is not clear why the people of the Stone Age could be so needed astronomical observations that they erected such large-scale buildings?
In addition, some scientists, in particular, ufologists, put forward a hypothesis that megaliths are stone books of the ancients, in which scientific knowledge about the Earth, the solar system and the Universe is encrypted. These books were left by representatives of the intelligent forces of space for earthlings. The hypothesis is certainly beautiful, only it is not supported by any evidence.
Crazy hypothesis?
And finally, in 1992, the Ukrainian geologist R. S. Furdui together with the physicist Yu. M. Shvaidak put forward an extraordinary hypothesis that some of the megaliths are generators of acoustic and electronic vibrations. They noticed that the stone pillars became narrower downwards, although it would be more logical to place the stone on a wide base. Most of the megaliths are built of stones containing large amounts of quartz. As you know, quartz is able to generate an electric current and maintain the constancy of its oscillations, and can also generate ultrasound under the influence of an electric current.
The Kiev scientists base their conclusions on the amazing discovery of British researchers. It turns out that scientists at Oxford University, after a series of experiments, found that before sunrise the Roll-Wright complex emits ultrasonic vibrations, which subsequently damp, and these vibrations have the greatest intensity and duration during the equinoxes and the least during the solstices. Moreover, individual Roll-Wright stones have different sound cycles and spatial limitations. British scientists have concluded that megaliths are ancient transmitters that emit ultrasound in the form of a directional beam. It is clear that people who lived in the Stone Age hardly had the necessary knowledge for this. So who actually built the megaliths?
The dwarf builders came from under the water
This question takes us away from dry science into the realm of legends and traditions. The Polynesians are sure that the megaliths were built either by the red-bearded gods who came from overseas, or by the dwarf menehuns who arrived on the flying three-tiered island of Kuaikhelani. The aborigines of Australia attribute the construction of megaliths to the Vongins, creatures that emerged from the depths of the sea without mouths, but with halos around their heads. There are also legends about the dwarfs who inhabited Australia before the first people appeared there. The Ossetians have legends about the dwarfs of the bicent. living in the sea and capable of knocking down a huge tree at a glance. Irish legends say that at night, at certain times of the year, hills open up, emitting an unearthly light, beckoning random travelers to the land of dwarf-sid, who went underground after the first people appeared in these places. At the same time, the menhirs are credited with the ability to establish a connection between the Sids and people. African tribes also have legends about dwarfs, fox children Yorugu and Earth. The glory of the builders of megaliths belongs to this little people.
The Maya Indians had a legend that to build the pyramid of the Sun, the Mayan priests turned to a sorceress, who, at their request, summoned an ugly dwarf from the sea. This dwarf built a 64-meter pyramid in just one night.
As you can see, most of the legends that peoples living in different parts of the planet dedicated to megaliths converge on dwarfs with supernatural powers. But this conclusion does not bring us one iota closer to solving the mystery of the megaliths.
