Many of his contemporaries guessed about the substitution of Peter I that took place during the “great embassy” in Europe, as well as those researchers who carefully studied the documents of that time found strange contradictions in the official version of history. So it was known about the hydrophobia of young Peter and about his excellent horse training. The man who returned in the form of Peter was not only much taller and older than him, did not know Russian, wrote in Latin, but at the same time had many years of experience in naval battles, and also suffered from a chronic form of tropical fever, which was "caught" in Europe, yes the real Peter, still in his old form, of course, could not.

Nor could he give up old friends. and send his beloved wife to the monastery. And, of course, theoretically, he could be baptized as a Protestant during his trip, but there is no compelling reason that could explain such an act of his. Also, but explainable and from the point of view of official history, there remains an unexpected fascination with European dresses and especially an unexpectedly "awakened" attraction exclusively to German women. By the way, after all, all the subsequent tsars of the Romanovs married only princesses of German blood. And this means that they knew perfectly well who exactly was the impostor who returned after the "grand embassy" by nationality.

They knew, but carefully kept this secret, for it could affect the legitimacy of the rule of this dynasty by our people. But on the other hand, taking into account all this, it is not at all surprising that German historians were entrusted to write the new history of our country, and most of the foreign specialists at the court were also Germans, as well as most of the scientists in the created Russian Academy of Sciences. It is no coincidence that some independent historians of our time call the period of the Romanovs' reign - the "German-Romanov yoke", which, in contrast to the "Mongol-Tatar yoke" invented by the falsifiers, was real. And if we take this into account, then the amazing cruelty of the false Peter to his own subjects from among the Russian people is no longer surprising.

It must be said that German historians "worked" with historical documents with their inherent pedantry, carefully "cleaning up" everything that could cast a shadow on the impostor and lead to his exposure. For example. not a single portrait of the tsar has survived until the “great embassy”. And isn't it because. that they could expose the fact of the substitution by careful comparison. And yet, some of the independent researchers were able to find one such portrait. And he managed to survive, thanks to the fact that the person depicted on it was called "unknown."

Here is what V. Kukovenko writes about him in his book “How did they replace Peter?”:

And if we compare this portrait with the later numerous images of the impostor, then many differences are quite easily detected. And all this also quite logically explains all the other striking "changes" in the appearance, tastes, skills and knowledge, and even sexual predilections of that Peter (or rather "Peter", as he called himself, signing documents in Latin with this name) who returned to the country instead of the real king. Thus, in the face of this portrait, one more proof of the deception of the whole people and the real reason for the total falsification of our history was found, in which the Slavs and Rus became “wild barbarians”, and the Germans became the “civilizers” of these barbarians. And why such a falsification in the person from beginning to end invented by the "Norman theory" was needed by a completely non-Russian imperial dynasty,I think it is quite understandable for any person with their own brains.
