In its original meaning, this expression implies a kind of contract between a person and supernatural forces. Such an agreement (which, according to myths, was supposed to be sealed with blood) took into account the interests of both parties. The most famous "soul seller" is the warlock Dr. Faust. This is a real historical person. However, the relationship between Faust and Mephistopheles, to whom he allegedly promised his soul in exchange for immortality, is a myth: there were no eyewitnesses.
