For several years now, mankind has been searching for extraterrestrial civilizations, with whose representatives ufologists have long dreamed of making contact. However, some scientists, according to Actualnews, are convinced that people cannot communicate with aliens.

An employee of the University of Lancaster, James Carney, spoke about the prospects for communication with aliens. In his opinion, science is practically the only area in which mankind can communicate with representatives of extraterrestrial civilizations, and that is only because the laws of physics are equally valid in all corners of the Universe.

The scientist believes that when meeting with aliens, people will encounter problems in communication, since we do not have the slightest idea about their language. Humanity uses sounds to convey information, but it has no idea if extraterrestrial beings do the same. Aliens can communicate in sign language, through facial expressions or telepathy. It may turn out that representatives of alien civilizations communicate on a different frequency range, and if this is so, without outside help, people will not even be able to identify their speech.

From the point of view of the structure of the language, there are two options for the development of events. Many experts are convinced that people will not be able to learn the language of aliens. Humanity is limited by grammar - certain processes are active in the brain of earthlings that allow them to communicate with each other. Moreover, our language always limits the speaker at least by combinations of parts of speech, grammatical forms, semantic constructions, and so on. They are different for each language, but their structure is predetermined. If the language of extraterrestrial beings developed in a different way, without restrictions and norms, humanity simply will not be able to understand their speech.

There are also opponents of this theory, who are convinced that meaning is more important than form. Carney himself believes that there are too many "ifs" in communicating with aliens. In his opinion, even if earthlings "on their fingers" can explain something to aliens, they still will not be able to become space polyglots. At the same time, he emphasizes that with an "aggressive invasion" of aliens, the account for mutual understanding with them will go for minutes.
