There are still many places and objects on our Earth, the purpose of which we do not know and, most likely, will not know even later. And the fact of their creation is also surprising. How people in the distant past, for example, erected the famous pyramids, processed stones like machines. Although according to the official version of historians in those days there was nothing but a hammer and a chisel. Today we will also talk about such a controversial place as Moray.
Moray is an archaeological site (Peru).
This excavation is shaped like a bowl with concentric terraces. Their purpose is still unknown, but scientists put forward a more plausible version that this place was used as an "agricultural laboratory".
The longest terraces can be seen in the center, which descend 150 m deep. And the smallest terrace is an almost perfect circle at the very bottom. Also around these round terraces there are 6 more, but more like an ellipse in shape. Another part (there are 8 of them) is even higher than the elliptical ones, but they cover only some sides of the "steps".
How people moved

In fact, everything is very simple. These terraces-steps are connected by staircases with stone ledges. They also serve people for movement.
Why the theory of "agricultural laboratories" is being put forward
Since this place is not small in size, and the depth is 150 m, its own microclimate is created on the steps of different levels. Scientists have found that the temperature difference between the highest point and the lowest is 15 ° C. Therefore, this temperature difference prompted the researchers to think that in this place they experimented with crops and studied the effect of different climatic conditions on the harvest.
Moreover, scientists have established such a pattern that the temperature drops in terraces (artificial structures) completely coincide with the drops in natural conditions of lands at sea level and in the Andes at an altitude of 1000 m.
And here is what the soil analysis showed: scientists have found that the composition of the soil differs at each stage. It was brought here from the regions, which correspond to a separate circle of terraces.
Who used this place
At the moment, there is a theory that this place was used by the priests-scientists of the Incas, who conducted experiments with crops and determined which crops are best to sow in certain areas.
Drainage system
This place has another mystery - the drainage system. It turns out that the lower level was never flooded, no matter how heavy the rains were. It turns out that under the lower level there is very good drainage and water does not accumulate.
Several theories have been put forward about this question:
1. The theory that under the terraces there are underwater channels that ensure the outflow of excess water.
2. Another theory says that under the lower level there is a natural porous stone, thanks to which the water goes into the depths.
Conclusion
Probably, now we will not know the true purpose of this place. But the version about a kind of laboratory sounds more plausible. In addition, there is one explanation for this: more than half (60%) of the world's food crops grow in the Andean region. In this case, the scientists made the correct assumptions.
