Another Atlantic cyclone has broken through to European Russia. This whirlwind began to influence the weather on Sunday. Heavy snowfalls took place in the north and northwest of the Russian Plain: on the Kola Peninsula, in Pomorie, Vologda, Leningrad and Novgorod regions, as well as in the Komi Republic. Ice formed in Arkhangelsk - the thickness of the ice layer reached 2 mm, the visibility due to a blizzard fell below 1 km. Similar values were recorded in Murmansk.
Today the cyclone cloud fields will break through to the center and east of the European territory of Russia. The heaviest snowfalls - over 10 mm per day - are expected in the Urals. But in the west, precipitation will already fall in the form of rain. And in the transition zone - in the Arkhangelsk, Vologda regions, the Upper Volga and the north of the Chernozem region - ice rains are predicted.
This is due to the fact that the cyclone carries very warm Atlantic air masses to the Russian Plain. Today the border of the thaws will move towards the Petrozavodsk-Kazan-Volgograd line. And by the end of the working week, it will shift 1,500 km to the east, and weakly positive temperatures will be observed even in the Urals and Western Siberia.
Winter teases the inhabitants of European Russia. On Saturday, there were snowfalls in this part of the country, the temperature went into a steady minus. In Moscow, for the first time this season, the snow cover reached 7 cm, which, however, is still 3 times lower than the norm. In Voronezh, the snowdrifts grew from 1 to 15 cm per day! Alas, by the end of the week there will most likely be no snow in the metropolis.
