The director of the Perm Geographical Club, Radik Garipov, once worked as a forester in the Vishersky Nature Reserve. In the summer of 2004, he went around the cordons with an inspection and during the crossing over the ridge of the Tulym stone drew attention to several unusual stones. The huge boulders looked like cubes with a side of about 2 meters.
- Wow, what is not in nature, - the forester was surprised. And then he pondered his find for a long time and hoped to return and study it better. A good chance turned up this summer, when specialists from Perm State National Research University gathered with an expedition to Tulym.
Getting to the ridge is not easy. By helicopter it is 150 kilometers north-east of Krasnovishersk. But scientists do not have it, so first we drove in an off-road vehicle through the taiga, then 35 kilometers by swimming upstream through the rifts and another 10 kilometers on foot along a narrow path in the mountains.
“We were descending from the top, and suddenly I saw a stone with a perfectly flat surface,” one of the expedition members Andrei Bolotov said yesterday in the KP press center. - Came up to take a closer look, and saw a number of similar ones.
The expedition members are sure that these blocks are traces of an ancient civilization. They are clearly processed by people, but the nature of the cuts is such that you cannot leave such traces with modern tools.
- And who will be dragged into the mountains with tools? Why is this necessary? - the members of the expedition reflect. - After all, we found these stones at a height of almost 1.5 kilometers.
“As an aviator, I can say that the place we found is very reminiscent of a helicopter landing site,” said Radik Garipov. - There are two peaks, and between them is an isthmus, which looks like terraces, the size of a football field. It was there that we found these stones with traces of high-tech processing. I think that there, at the highest point of the Perm Territory, there could well be, for example, a lighthouse.
The surface of the stones found is perfectly flat. They don't even have a lichen, although they've got everything there. That is, the cut is so smooth that the lichen has nothing to even catch. Sawed blocks are close in strength to granites, and scientifically this rock is called sericite shale.

“The glacier came down from this place about seven thousand years ago,” says the head of the expedition Andrei Grishchenko. - Most likely, these are traces of a civilization that lived here several tens of thousands of years ago. Which one is just to be found out. We really hope that we will be able to return to Tulym next year. After all, this time we were too limited in time. It is necessary to involve geologists and other specialists in the expedition, and, of course, funds are needed.
The two-meter cubes, which Radik Garipov once saw on Tulym, were never found by the expedition members - they did not reach that place about ten kilometers. But the discovered stones, as it turned out, are found in other regions of Russia - for example, in Kolyma.
- If you study the map of the world, it turns out that similar fragments were found in places where there are gold deposits, - explained Garipov. - And this is also food for thought.
