The swampy area in the south of Louisiana in the USA attracts fans of extreme tourism. Muddy dark green waters are teeming with crocodiles and snakes, sprawling trees twisted by dampness pull their gnarled hands to boats with rare visitors. An acrid, thick fog spreads among the thickets, causing panic attacks in people who see red-eyed monsters watching them from the water.
This could be a description of the most ordinary swamp, if it were not for the frequent cases of missing people and the history that preceded these events.
Curse of voodoo
It's hard to believe, but in the twentieth century, people lived on the swampy shores: three small settlements coexisted with each other until disaster struck. A terrible hurricane swooped in and destroyed the villages. Rare, warped, rotten houses can be seen to this day, and the corpses of the dead people still surface. There is a legend that the tragedy was due to a vengeful witch who was addicted to voodoo magic. A black woman named Julia Brown was well known to the locals as a midwife and healer until she was noticed for black witchcraft. People were frightened and decided to send the witch deep into the swamps, to certain death. They say that a woman offended by such an attitude cursed the residents, shouting: "I will die and take the whole city with me." And so it happened. 300 people died in a huge storm that struck the coast.
Any attempts to rebuild the settlements were doomed to failure: it became terrifying to be in the swamps. The ghosts of the dead are flying around the area, trying to find their belongings and loved ones. In the dense fog, one can hear the moaning and screaming of women, or even a strange, slow chant, similar to a spell.

Werewolves and man-eating crocodiles
Among the cypress trees, strange figures of people with aloof gazes are noticed, while finding a piece of land in the Manchak swamp is extremely difficult. The swamps are deservedly called ghostly. Bad places attract the curious, many of whom disappear without a trace. Most of the cases can be attributed to man-eating crocodiles - there are many of them here, and they are not afraid to swim up to travelers. If someone falls off the boat, they cannot be saved.
But, eyewitnesses talk about another possible reason for the sudden disappearances. Monsters with burning eyes chasing travelers are werewolves in search of profit. Many have heard a terrible howl, depriving them of will. They say that these werewolves scare away adventurers, discouraging all the desire to roam the swamps.

The local authorities failed to drain or clear the swamps for various reasons, so you still have the opportunity to see with your own eyes a werewolf or the ghost of a voodoo witch. The main thing is not to stop and move on. Do not swim or leave the "path". And also, do not swim alone: fogs fool your head, false lights and strange songs entail, luring you deeper into the gloomy, perilous jungle.
