In the Arkhangelsk region of Russia there is a mysterious lake called Surzi. Lake Surzi earned its mysterious reputation after people began to die on it. To this day, the mystery of the lake has not been solved, despite the fact that many experts have worked on this issue.
Lake Surzi is a real boon for any fisherman. There are such fish species as whitefish, pike, dace, grayling and others. However, for such an attractive catch, fishermen can pay too much with their lives. Surzi has a very attractive appearance and never for a second casts doubt on her friendliness. The water in the lake is crystal clear, and around you can contemplate the gorgeous nature. So what can lie in wait for people in this picturesque place?
The first victims of Lake Surzi
In the early 2000s, several unpleasant incidents occurred on the lake, during which people died. Many groups went to rest on Lake Surzi, but in two of them deaths of a rather strange nature were recorded. The first fatal case was the death of Vladimir Belugin, who at that time was 35 years old. He came to the lake with a group at the end of autumn, when the water was already frozen. Part of the group noticed that in some places the lake was covered with a light brown oily film. Also, it was very strange that some fish simply froze into the ice, which usually does not happen. After fishing through the holes in the ice, the fishermen went to the hut to warm up. At this time, absolutely all members of the group, which consisted of 11 people, began to feel unwell, and one of them became too ill,and in the morning he passed away. Belugin's body was sent for examination and the doctors called the cause of death "poisoning with an unknown gas."
The accidents on the lake did not end there, and the next group of fishermen also suffered losses. This time, the lake took the life of Veniamin Rusanov. When his body was taken to the morgue, the cause of death was named the same as that of Belugin. The most surprising thing is that even the most complete examinations failed to shed light on the exact cause of death.
Only after that, a special commission was sent to Surzi, which needed to conduct a medical and environmental examination. Then, the final conclusion of the experts was never made public, but one thing became clear - there are poisons in the lake. It is completely incomprehensible how the toxic substances got into the water of this lake and could not at the same time affect its appearance. Sorzi is still a picturesque place that attracts people to relax on their shores.

Locals ask for help
However, residents of these areas have long noted that very strange things are happening here. Here you can rarely find mushrooms, berries, and even animals try to bypass these places. In nearby villages, people began to get sick more often and livestock were actively dying. The residents of the Mezensky district, in which the mysterious lake is located, ask not to hush up what is happening and expect to continue the investigation.
Those who are not indifferent to the mystery of Lake Surzi put forward their versions of the mysterious deaths. At the same time, opinions were divided and some believe that the proximity to the lake of the Plesetsk cosmodrome is to blame. Just 40 km from Surzi, there is an area into which rocket stages fall on takeoff. They contain radioactive fuel, which contaminates the area. Others are of the opinion that the so-called black holes found at the bottom of Surzi are to blame. These “pits” periodically release gas into the water, which can negatively affect the lake's eco-system.
