In Russia, in the north-west of the Tver region, the famous Lake Brosno is located. It is known for its monster "more terrible" than a lizard from the Scottish Loch Ness. For the first time it was mentioned in legends, then in chronicles: “The monster of Batu's warriors ate when they were resting on the shore on their way to Novgorod”. Interestingly, no one described the monster's appearance.
Scientists have tried to deal with the local lizard. However, they could not find him. But they found out that decomposition processes take place at the bottom of the lake, due to which bubbles with carbon dioxide are formed. These bubbles can easily turn a small boat over.

Gafsa
In Tunisia, 25 kilometers from the city of Gafsa, local shepherds found a lake in the middle of a scorched desert. At first they decided that it was a mirage: they walked for a long time in the heat - they had a dream. But the vision was tangible. The most amazing thing is that the lake was formed literally overnight in August 2014.
Scientists have long fought over the mystery of the appearance of the reservoir and settled on the version that seismic activity is to blame. However, how the lake could have formed so quickly is still not clear.
Kawah-Ijen
In Indonesia, in the Ijen volcanic complex in East Java, there is the most acidic lake in the world - Kawah Ijen. Don't be fooled by the turquoise color of its water: at a depth of 200 ° C there are suffocating deadly methane gases. And at night it glows bright blue. Sulfuric acid enters the lake from an active magma reservoir under the water column.
Despite the danger, local residents collect sulfur on the shore without protective masks. And tourists come here to admire the "terrible" beauty, take a selfie against the background of an acid reservoir.
Boiling lake
There is Boiling Lake in the Dominican Republic. And this is not a metaphor. The lake is literally boiling. The water temperature reaches 92 ° C. Swimming in the pond is strictly forbidden - you can be boiled alive.
The lake boils in a matter of minutes: it is located in the crater of a volcano and is constantly heated. Therefore, it is better to admire them from afar, or at least from the shore.
Natron
Natron or Killer Lake is located in northern Tanzania near the border with Kenya. What is only one bloody color. But that's not all.
The surface of the reservoir is periodically covered with a crust of mineral salts brought along with volcanic ash from the East African Rift Valley. The alkali content in the lake ranges from 9–10.5 pH, the water temperature reaches 60 ° C. Birds, falling into Natron, instantly die, their remains are covered with mineral substances and harden. Stone statues, frozen in unnatural poses, are gradually moving closer to the shore, turning the lake into a kingdom of mummies.
Nyos
Another killer lake is in Africa, Cameroon. Nios killed 1,746 lives. Since the end of August 1985, a gas cloud has appeared on the coastal territories, which killed all living things. According to scientists, because of the volcano in the lake, carbon dioxide entered the water, its vapors rose to the surface.
