A bizarre, almost dry electrical storm in the US could be a harbinger of devastating events.

The erratic storm was followed by 40,000 lightning strikes in southwestern California. The strikes hit Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Ventura County - all between September 10-11, shtfplan.com reported.

The electric storm was most active on Sunday, with an astonishing 5,000 lightning strikes in the area over three hours. A violent storm brought a huge amount of lightning to the southern region, but almost no rain. The heaviest rain brought just 0.44 inches at Sudden Peak on Sunday. By Monday morning, the Eastern District of Los Angeles had reported heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and winds up to 35 mph.

But now the debate swirls around this unusual electrical storm. Strange lights and plasma that, oddly enough, appear, both before and during major earthquakes - as was the case with the recent 8.2 magnitude earthquake in Mexico. Could these lightning bolts be a sign that a mega-earthquake in California is on the horizon?

Like California, Mexico is a seismically active region with small earthquakes that have resulted in death and destruction. But last Thursday's strong points are a reminder that even large earthquakes - although rare - do occur. Scientists say that in Southern California it can hit 8 points. Such an earthquake would be much more devastating for the Los Angeles area, because the San Andreas Fault lies beneath densely populated areas.

It is often argued that California is ripe for a devastating mega-earthquake, and after some have observed strange lights in the sky over Mexico during the quake, these conspiracy findings fall like seed on well-fermented soil.
