South Ural scientists studying the Sintashta archaeological culture made a presentation at the Ural archaeological meeting.
Their work is aimed, among other things, at replacing the myth-making that arises around Arkaim, popular among tourists, with real scientific knowledge.
Note that the Ural Archeological Meeting is perhaps the most authoritative conference on the archeology of the Ural-Volga region today. It has been held since 1947 and is considered an important coordinating center for the development of Ural archeology. The twenty-first meeting was held in Samara on October 8-11. There, South Ural archeologists from ChelSU and SUSPU made reports on certain aspects of the study of the Sintashta-Petrovsky cultural world. In particular, archaeologists from the Chelyabinsk Pedagogical University presented to the scientific community their research on the seams and needles of the Bronze Age.
The researchers note that most of the needles were found in female burials. Only one needle was found in the man's, and archaeologists do not exclude that it was the edge of an ancient awl. Scientists came to the cautious conclusion that needles in the Bronze Age in the Urals were a female attribute. Already at that time the needles had different "specialization". Some were intended to work with leather, while others have indications that they were used to create shoes, embroidery.
Aroused interest at the All-Russian Conference and the results of the study of a knife-dagger, found several years ago by an archaeological expedition of the ChelSU during the study of the Stepnoye VII burial mound.
The dagger, according to everyone who saw it, is amazingly beautiful. It, as described in the collection of articles of the Ural archaeological meeting, is a bronze product with a metal slotted handle. Ancient edged weapons have a thin leaf-shaped blade with a bridge and a pronounced rib. The handle has a complex-shaped pommel in the form of four knobs and a vertical mushroom-shaped projection above them. There are six grooves under the pommel that encircle the handle. Slightly below there is a vertical cut-out pattern in the form of a chain of rhombuses enclosed between the angled beams that make up the edges of the handle.
The researchers came to the conclusion, in particular, that “the dagger from the complex of the 8th cemetery Stepnoye VII was made by local craftsmen, but the model embodied in it, found in a vast territory to the north, suggests that in this case we are not talking about direct import of objects, but about the import of ideas and images, the general environment and connections between metallurgists of the northern periphery of the Sintashta-Petrovsky world with representatives of the Seima-Turbino transcultural phenomenon”.
By the way, the monuments located on the territory of the Chelyabinsk Region were discussed more than once at the All-Russian Conference. For example, the variability of the funeral rite was studied at the burial grounds found in the Chebarkul region. And the images on the vessels of the Bronze Age were prepared on the basis of ceramics found in the Kartala region.
