A vessel with a fragment of a human bone, presumably belonging to the canonized Pope Clement I, was found at a waste sorting station in London, according to The Guardian.

The relics were kept under glass in a box with an engraving “Oss. S Clementis "(Latin" bone of St. Clement "). A garbage disposal company is looking for the owner of the find, and experts are finding out its value: such relics were popular in the 16th century, they were often faked, passing off the remains of mere mortals as holy relics.

The publication notes that the inhabitants of the Italian monastery of San Clemente a Casauria are sure: most of the remains of the Pope are kept with them. A smaller part of the saint's remains are kept in the Basilica of St. Clement in Rome, built on the site of his house, as well as in the Inkerman Monastery of St. Clement.

Clement I is equally revered by both the Orthodox and the Catholic Church. He was the fourth Pope and died in 97, 99 or 101. According to legend, he died a martyr's death for converting pagans to Christians in Chersonesos: by order of Emperor Trajan, the pontiff was tied to an anchor and drowned in the sea.
