A resident of Daytona Beach, Florida, was arrested by police after first screaming about vampires and then burning down his own house.

According to local10.com, at about two in the afternoon last Sunday, the wife of 64-year-old Melvin Weaver called the police and began to say that her husband probably had a mental problem.

However, when the police arrived to the call, they established that Weaver did not at all look like a psycho and act and speak quite rationally.

The police left the Weaver home, but around 7 pm that same day, events began to develop even more actively. Weaver pounced on his wife, and then began smashing the windows of the house with his cane, shouting "Vampires will defend themselves!"

After shouting that strange phrase and breaking all the windows, Weaver ran into the kitchen and lit the stove, and then heaped plastic tiles from the ceiling on top of it.

The fire first broke out in the kitchen, and then engulfed the entire house. Weaver's wife managed to escape, but Weaver did not know about it, so with a knife in his hand he began knocking on neighboring houses and shouting that his wife must be saved from the burning house.

By that time, the police had arrived at the scene and tied Weaver.

According to his wife, he had never seen anything like this before and that he does not take any pills, except for the pain reliever prescribed by doctors, as he suffers from cancer.
