The man who brutally murdered a 90-year-old pensioner and ate his heart and tongue said that voices in his head made him commit the atrocious crime that shook France.
A homeless 26-year-old man broke into the home of his elderly victim in southern France, smashed his head with an iron bar, and then used the murder weapon to get to the parts of his body, which he then ate. Before burning the victim's body, he swallowed her tongue and heart. Noticing the traces of his horrific crime, a homeless man set fire to a house belonging to a 90-year-old pensioner.
The first to see the burning house was the son of the murdered man who lives nearby. Arriving at his father's house, the man found the body of the brutally murdered parent, investigators said.
Events on Thursday night shook the small village that is home to a community of about 200 people. Before committing the grisly murder, the man also attacked another villager who was hit by a tractor.
After several days of searching, the police finally succeeded in arresting a man from the neighboring village of Tarba in the Hautes-Pyrenees department. During his arrest, he behaved very calmly and was not aggressive.
The attacker is currently in custody and is expected to stand trial next year. His arrest came three years after a prisoner known as the French Hannibal Lecter ate his cellmate's lungs. Nicolas Cocaign said in court that he went into a fit of uncontrollable rage when his victim, Thierry Baudry, looked askance at him."
The incident also has some similarities with the Florida case. When Rudy Eugene, nicknamed the "Miami cannibal," ate 75 percent of 66-year-old Ronald Poppo's face. As a result of the attack, the man was left blind.
Eugene, who also tore Poppo's clothes and beat him badly, was shot by police in an incident last year.
