It is noted that over the past two years, carbon dioxide emissions caused by the combustion of fossil fuels have decreased by 41 billion tons per year. According to experts, this was achieved because large countries, including the United States and China, are making efforts to replace the main energy source - coal - with natural gas, and also use renewable energy sources.
However, even with this in mind, the global temperature could exceed the established limit in several decades. To prevent this from happening, a number of benchmarks must be met by 2020. For example, the share of electricity generated by wind turbines and solar cells should be 30 percent. At the same time, humanity needs to abandon the construction of new thermal power plants, and bring the market share of electric vehicles to 15 percent.
The changes should also affect the aviation industry. According to experts, it is necessary to reduce the amount of emitted carbon dioxide per kilometer of flight by 20 percent. Greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and livestock production must be reduced to zero.
