Tenth of a second - and there is no rocket
On September 1, 2016, Elon Musk's SpaceX Falcon 9 booster exploded at the Cape Canaveral launch site. This happened while refueling the rocket with fuel - oxygen and kerosene.
The epicenter of the explosion was either in the oxygen tank, or next to it.
“Some kind of anomaly on the launch pad,” Musk said.
Under the code word "anomaly," the company is now publishing investigation reports. But from what exactly the rocket exploded is still not clear.
Experts only found out that events were developing rapidly - less than a tenth of a second passed from the beginning of the "anomaly" to the loss of connection with the rocket. And the collected fragments of the rocket made it possible to establish that a hole had formed in it.

“It's important to note that everything happened during a regular refueling, the engines were not turned on, and no source of increased heat was observed,” Elon Musk, founder and CEO of SpaceX, wrote online.
Along with this, the billionaire noted that a few moments before the explosion, the sound of a blow was recorded. "It could have come from the rocket itself or from somewhere else," Musk says. And it does not exclude that a foreign object could hit the missile.
By the way, the videos show that in the sky above the launch pad at a low altitude, a moment before the explosion, a UFO appeared - some kind of dark ball. He moved at great speed. The explosion occurred at the moment when the ball flew near the rocket.

"So far, no confirmation of any version has been found in the missile's sensor data," Musk writes. And he considers it possible to get help in the investigation from outside observers.
Guests from the sky
Most often, ball lightning is formed during a thunderstorm. Moving along the broken path laid by the lightning conductor, the main lightning charge at each break in the trajectory throws electromagnetic vortices into the surrounding space, which begin to live their own life. With sufficient energy, such a vortex ionizes air molecules, as a result of which a plasma envelope is formed around the vortex around the perimeter, locking this electromagnetic vortex into a mirror trap that contracts to a size from several centimeters to several meters, which can exist for some time. The result is what is called a soliton (solitary wave) in physics, and ball lightning in everyday life. Similarly, the earth's ionosphere mirrors short radio waves, trapping them in the same trap and preventing them from going out into space.
The ball lightning soliton will exist until the density of the plasma envelope decreases to a level insufficient to contain the trapped vortex. In this case, the soliton will collapse smoothly or with an explosion. This is exactly the fate of ball lightning.
Ball lightning has amazing properties. They pass through dielectrics and small holes; move not in the wind, but along the gradient lines of the external electromagnetic field; can glow in different colors or even be invisible to the eyes, glowing in the infrared or ultraviolet ranges - appearing black against a light background; can have the shape of not only a ball, but also a torus (donut), a cylinder.
Ball lightning - they are also solitons, they are also electromagnetic exhaust - are formed as a result of strikes of linear lightning.
The electromagnetic vortex of ball lightning carries enormous energy, mainly concentrated in the soliton itself, but some of it extends beyond the plasma envelope, producing all sorts of amazing effects. So once a ball lightning flying near a group of people instantly evaporated all the rings on their hands. Ball lightning, even at a distance, interferes with electronic systems and can disable them.
Jumping out of the ground
But not only thunderstorm lightning can generate what is not quite correctly called ball lightning. Back in the last century, researchers from the University of Denver in the USA discovered electromagnetic radiation that was created by a granite cube under pressure comparable to the pressure in the bowels of the earth. Similar experiments were carried out by Russian scientists at the Tomsk Polytechnic University. The radiation was recorded, starting with low loads, and its level increased sharply before the destruction of the sample.
Therefore, dynamic processes in the depths can be accompanied by emissions of flows of electromagnetic energy. So during the earthquake in China in 1976, flashes of unprecedented brightness occurred in the sky. And in some areas, the leaves of trees and garden plants were burnt. In Turkey in 1999, immediately before the earthquake, the sea water warmed up. During earthquakes, flights of ball lightning are often observed. In Canada, even before the main blow of the elements, glowing balls popped out of the ground covered with snow. About 20 years ago, in the evening in Moscow, flights of translucent glowing balls were observed, although there were no signs of a thunderstorm.
All these are manifestations of the electromagnetic emission of the bowels, where there is never calm, if only because compression-extension waves roll across the earth's crust due to lunisolar tides several times a day, initiating rock fractures and their displacement relative to each other. Even with weak earthquakes with a magnitude of only 2-3 units, practically unnoticed by people, a very considerable energy is released in the form of mechanical movements - about 10 billion Joules. In this case, the energy of the emission of the electromagnetic field has the same order.
The movement of the active point of the fracture of rocks along a broken trajectory and heterogeneity of rocks in the interior can generate vortices of significant energy in electromagnetic flows. When these electromagnetic vortices are eventually released into the atmosphere, they can generate fireballs, just like those that form during a thunderstorm.

Ball lightning can occur anywhere on the planet's surface. Including at the Cape Canaveral cosmodrome. It could be, as it sometimes happens, translucent. At the size of a tennis ball, such an object would be almost invisible on a clear sunny day.
Ball lightning could have a plasma envelope glowing in the infrared or ultraviolet wavelength range. Then she herself would be invisible to human eyes, but against a light background - for example, against the background of the daytime sky - it would look like a dark body. In this case, we can assume that the dark object that flew over the launch pad during the Falcon 9 crash was a ball lightning of this kind. The external electromagnetic field of this lightning could cause sparks in the metal parts of the rocket and the systems connected to it. And some metal parts, in principle, could melt or evaporate altogether.
How can we check this version of the accident? Apparently, it is necessary to analyze the records of seismographs of this area for the purpose of identifying some non-stationary processes in the bowels at this time. After all, they were the ones who were able to give rise to the very unidentified dark object that flew near the rocket. He, in turn, was the source of strange blows. Or even a hole found in the tank.
It is worth checking if there were any malfunctions of various types of electronic devices at the time of the accident. This often happens during the flight of ball lightning. And, of course, by comparing the moments of recording shocks by different recorders, it is possible to determine the location of the source of shocks preceding the accident. Which will also help establish the truth.
