The secret study was titled Aerospace Advanced Threat and Identification Program (AATIP). In the course of this program, mysterious aircraft and other unexplained phenomena were studied.

Official documents indicate that researchers studied "exotic technologies" including so-called wormholes, anti-gravity, cloaking objects with invisibility, hyperspace engines and high-energy laser weapons.

Now, however, it is claimed that the AATIP program investigated the health consequences of witnesses to UFO encounters.

Last year, only a few factual documents were released to the general public.

One of the studies was called "Effects on biological tissues in the field." Nick Pope, who headed the UFO Investigation Unit at the US Department of Defense, said the document was likely describing the health impact of close contact. Pope pointed to an article published in Las Vegas Now in which Dr. Hal Puthoff, a scientist working for the AATIP program, said: “We looked at some of the cases in this program that supposedly happened in Brazil.

It was in 1977-1978, similar to "Close Encounters of the Third Type": a thousand pages of documents from the Brazilian Air Force investigation team, 500 photographs, a 15-hour film, evidence of many injuries during close contact of people with these devices. Pope told Metro that the article was "confirmation that the Pentagon's AATIP program not only looked at UFOs, but also close encounters and alien abductions."

"I believe these studies were conducted in such a way as to obscure the fact that they were part of the US intelligence program, when witnesses were told that they were participating in a scientific study."

Earlier this year, the United States Department of Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) released documents revealing some of the work done on a top secret UFO research project. In a letter addressed to a congressional committee chaired by the late Senator John McCain in 2018, RUMO writes: "The goal of AATIP was to study the threats of advanced foreign aerospace weapons systems for the next 40 years."

The AATIP program was closed in 2012, although the New York Times reporters who reported it believe it is still ongoing in some way.
