For the first time, I discovered such traces a very long time ago and did not particularly focus on this. I found them in the pictures of Sigiriya and many stones that are there.

These indentations are usually square or rectangular in shape, approximately the same size, in which there is no logic at all.

In Sigiriya, for example, these are footprints on the most common stones, which were not even involved in any structure or something else. In this case, the indentations were created on the stone around the entire circle and in any other direction, in general it is difficult to see the meaning in this.

Not far from the well-known to many Barabar caves are these notches, if you can call them that. Officially, it is believed that such trails were made all over the world so that you can climb. In other words, it is an "ancient staircase."

But as I said, there is no logic in these grooves and they certainly cannot serve for lifting, and many examples speak about this. The next one is Petra and the main entrance to the temple.

Only here the traces are even more interesting. If such notches were made for lifting, as experts say, then it turns out that ancient people could walk on walls?

In the end, I'll add a snapshot that I kept for myself a long time ago, but I no longer remember what this place is. Since I saved it, it means that it is near some ancient structure, but as you can see, these are ordinary stones.

That is, these indentations were made not only in some important objects, but also in ordinary stones, the same thing, in principle, is found in Sigiriya.

What are my versions? In fact, there are few versions and one of the closest to the truth, in my opinion, is the technique. Obviously, people could not walk on the walls, as in the ancient city of Petra, which means it was something else.

According to my version, this is some kind of ancient technique that moved rather chaotically and formed such recesses either with enormous power, simply simply pressing the stone. Or, the stone was soft, which is more likely, since the power for pressing an ordinary stone must be somehow unrealistic.

And the latest version is that such grooves are traces from the very movement of equipment. That is, there were no wheels, but something that clung to the formed recess.

There are not so clear traces here, but they still look similar

Plus, if the technique could move like that, then it was still processing something. For example, removing rocks, grinding, making holes, etc. Since if the meaning of technology or a separate machine is to make these recesses, then they are incomprehensible, at least to me.

In general, something like this, I see the origin and meaning of these traces. In fact, it will be interesting for me to read other opinions, so write in the comments what such traces can be, as well as how and why they were created in the past. And that's all.
