No, speaking about the illusory nature of the world, scientists do not mean something like a fantastic simulation depicted, for example, in the cinematic picture "The Matrix". The illusions that people replace reality with are an integral part of consciousness.

Some features of human consciousness, caused by the structure of the visual system, lead to the fact that people live in illusory worlds based on objective reality, but not coinciding with it in many aspects, scientists from the Netherlands are sure.

Researchers at the University of Amsterdam have proposed an interesting theory according to which the brain perceives reality in an extremely distorted way, as a result of which people form a completely erroneous idea of the real world.

“It's all about vision. Peripheral vision actually covers a very small area of space, so our visual system, closely connected with the “creative” areas of the brain, “draws” elements that we do not see. The picture created at the same time contains serious distortions, which are very much at odds with the objective reality, - quoted the publication of Psychological Science of the authors of the study.
