In the process of searching and preparing material for the article "The Origin of the Sands of the Sahara", the following crater was discovered:
Sudan. 15 ° 7 ′ 50.85 ″ N 26 ° 10 ′ 13.05 ″ E. Diameter - about a kilometer
Link to google map.
This is how it looks from above. I do not presume to assert about its origin (it is of meteorite origin or within the framework of the version about nuclear wars of the past), but it is clearly not ancient, because it has not been sufficiently eroded.
And then again and again. A little further north, these craters dot the entire hill:
Promotional video:
The diameter of these is about 1300m. Link to place
Maybe these are mud volcanoes. After all, there is an assumption that the famous "crater" "Eye of the Sahara", the structure of Richat is just such a formation.
There are many incomprehensible semicircular hills-waste heaps. Link.
They stand out against the background of the sands with their color.
And against the backdrop of a flat horizon, the deserts look unnatural. 15 ° 4 ′ 54.33 ″ N 26 ° 9 ′ 21.60 ″ E
Here is another crater with black sands. Libya. Link. They say that black sands are formed by nuclear explosions.
The center of this crater. On average, its diameter is over 3 km.
24 ° 55 ′ 49.74 ″ N 17 ° 46 ′ 9.76 ″ E
In the network I also found this photo of this place from a height:
A funnel-shaped depression on a desert surface looks unusual from a height. Source.
Chad. Diameter - more than 1 km. Link.
Huge depth, tens, maybe several hundred meters.
But a little to the south is an even larger caldera, a crater:
Diameter - more than 7 km (the above shown crater is located northeast of this "giant").
These craters have a name: Doon Caldera.
And nearby, to the west, there is such a mountain:
Height - 3315m.
Are these lava flows or flows from a mud volcano caused by falling asteroids or nuclear explosives? Erosion of rocks is significant. You can see how decent streams flowed down the slopes.
There are several more such volcanoes.
Another caldera, but more ancient. Link.
Link.
Double caldera Jebel Mara. They write that this is a volcano.
And here are photos of Eyes of the Sahara, a Richat structure in western Sahara:
21 ° 7 ′ 29.49 ″ N 11 ° 17 ′ 35.73 ″ W Reference
Diameter - average 38 km.
You cannot see anything suspicious from the surface.
And nearby (to the west) there is also a crater. Diameter - more than 4 km. Link.
There are versions that these are water and mud exits from the bowels. Examples of mud volcanoes are available:
They are all small.
But I found an interesting fact. Due to human activities (drilling of bowels), a mud volcano was awakened with a huge debit of water, mud and gases:
On May 28, 2006, the gas company PT Lapindo Brantas was conducting gas exploration in Sidoarjo, in East Java, Indonesia. At 5 am, in the middle of the drilling stage, the drill falls 3,700 meters downward, after which small eruptions of water, steam and gas began. The stream of hot mud hasn't stopped since then.
Fourteen people died and 30,000 people were evacuated from the area. At least a dozen villages, with over 10,000 houses, have been destroyed.
As you can see, with an illiterate seismic survey of the bowels of the earth, you can send drillers in the wrong place and cause problems.
How do you like this scenario of a global flood with clay-silt mudflows? Yes, here it is local, but if we consider that all the bowels of the planet have "rebelled", then not only magma of ordinary volcanoes will splash out to the surface, but something like that!
Let's go back to the Sahara. What if many of the craters shown here are of impact origin, from asteroid impacts? When the bowels were shaken during their fall, not only ordinary volcanoes woke up, but also such volcanoes - water and mud. And on a huge scale. Streams of water poured onto the surface, gases and steam escaped, which condensed into rains. And the streams of water were huge.
There is another interesting fact in defense of this version:
In Africa, especially under the Sahara Desert, in fact, there are serious reserves of water. We have already said that Muammar Gaddafi, very possibly, became a victim of military expansion not because of oil, but because of his attempt to get to this water, turning Africa into an ecological paradise. The publication Environmental Research Letters, well-known in the scientific community, reports that under the Sahara water reserves are located at a depth of 75 meters, and the volume of water can exceed a hundred times the total amount of water reserves on the earth's surface.

Considering the fact that scientists in such cases like to keep silent - their information should be multiplied immediately (about the volume of groundwater).
And one more fact that appeared not so long ago:
In Tunisia, a lake appeared in the center of the desert:
A mysterious lake emerged in the Tunisian desert, creating an impromptu beach in an arid region. Since the discovery of the reservoir by local shepherds, no explanation has been provided as to how this lake suddenly appeared in the desert.
The authorities warn that the water, which initially came to the surface of crystal clear, has turned cloudy green, and seaweed has begun to be found.

It is quite possible that once upon a time when the Earth was shaken from the fall of asteroids on the surface of the then not yet desert Sahara, streams of water gushed from the depths. We blurred the surface by washing up those volumes of sand that are now available.
And finally, I will give an example from Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. This place is south of the Sahara, but it is indicative of the faults in the earth's surface:
This is not a canyon, but a rift in the ground that occurred across the river. This is very clearly visible in Google Maps:
Upstream - it is a flat river, downstream - it flows along the faults. Link.
Putting all these facts together, we get a picture of the catastrophe that occurred in Africa. When did it happen? Perhaps the scientists who studied these calderas know more or less the exact period. But for us, ordinary people, this figure will be named millions of years ago. So that we don't really think that something like this could happen in the future. But to prepare for possible scenarios - we are being prepared, only at the level of fears about approaching another asteroid.
Some of the conspiracy theorists will say that how is it that the Earth has meteorite-asteroid protection. The Chelyabinsk meteorite was shot down … Even if this is so, it may be possible to break up a large body into small fragments (minimize the impact), but completely cancel the situation in case of a fall - will it even be impossible for these forces … I am not escalating the situation, but not showing such a well-preserved caldera could not. In addition, this is only a version built on a number of facts captured in photographs.
