“The discovery of these calcium carbonate and clay deposits on Mars is a window into a time when the climate on the red planet was vastly different from today. It wasn’t such a cold desert then, nor was it a dry desert,”shared Janice Bishop of the SETI Institute for the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence in Mountain View.
Recall that 5 years ago, scientists discovered magnesium carbonate and carbon dioxide salt deposits on Mars. After that, experts announced the existence of an atmosphere, which, with global absorption by the waters of the oceans, became sedimentary rocks.
Scientists have noticed a completely different type of carbonate, the existence of which on our planet is associated with oceans and life - calcium carbonate, of which chalk is composed. It is reported that ferruginous deposits were formed about 3.5 billion years ago, and they also confirm the data that Mars was a planet with oceans and a dense air shell.
