In 2015, Russian hackers managed to steal classified information from the US National Security Agency (NSA), The Wall Street Journal reports, citing its sources.

“The stolen data contained details about how the US NSA penetrated computer networks abroad, the computer codes used for such espionage, as well as how to protect networks within the United States itself, these people said (sources - IF),” notes newspaper.

The hacker hack was carried out back in 2015, but it became known only in the spring of last year, the newspaper claims.

According to The Wall Street Journal, hackers were able to obtain the necessary data through software (anti-virus programs) from Kaspersky Lab, which was installed on the computers of the NSA contractor.

At the same time, the publication emphasizes that the Russian authorities could use the information allegedly obtained by Russian hackers to improve the protection of their own computer networks.

Meanwhile, as noted by The Wall Street Journal, Kaspersky Lab denied information about its involvement in the alleged cyber hack. According to Kaspersky Lab, the company "did not provide any information or evidence to support this alleged incident, and, as a result, we are obliged to state that this is another example of false accusations."

In turn, the US NSA has so far declined to comment on the possible theft of data by Russian hackers.
