American researchers conducted experiments with mice. They were killed. Then, at certain time intervals, tissue samples were taken, analyzing the state of mRNA - template or messenger ribonucleic acid. This very mRNA is essentially a temporary working copy of DNA - the hereditary material on the basis of which proteins are synthesized. It is read from DNA in the process of so-called transcription, then it is used as a template for protein synthesis, playing an important role in the "manifestation" - expression - of genes.
Analyzes have shown that mRNA synthesis continues in dead laboratory animals. Gene expression continues. Not all, but very many. Scientists have recorded the activity of 1,063 genes. Calling their posthumous life activity "thanatotranscript".
Some genes began to show increased activity a few minutes after death - a kind of repetitive bursts. Others simply remained active - some 24 hours, and some 48 and, at most, even 72 hours after death (after that, the activity disappeared). And thanks to their work, the dead organism continued to synthesize proteins all this time.
