Scientists with the help of a special computer program were able to read an encrypted letter written in 1676 by a nun of one of the Italian monasteries, which they believed was possessed by the devil. It turned out that the message was written using letters from different alphabets.

The letter was written by Sister Maria Crochifissa della Consezione, who lived in the Benedictine monastery of Palma di Montechiaro. In 1676, she woke up in the morning with traces of ink on her hands and found an encrypted letter in front of her. Sister Mary explained to the other nuns that the letter was written under the influence of Satan who had infiltrated her, according to the Daily Mail.

Neither the woman herself nor the other inhabitants of the monastery could explain the meaning of the words written. No one succeeded in doing this for subsequent generations, and all this time the letter remained on display in the monastery.

Nowadays, a group of specialists from the Ludum Science Center in Sicily decided to take on the decryption of the letter. To this end, the specialists used a text decryption program that they found on the so-called "Dark Internet", or DarkWeb - a part of the Internet that is not accessible through conventional browsers or search engines.

Scholars have suggested that the letter was written by Sister Mary using letters from a range of languages that she, as a fairly educated woman, knew. In this regard, the program was loaded with alphabets from Latin, Ancient Greek and Modern Greek, Yezidi, and so on.

As a result, linguists managed to decipher fifteen lines of the letter and understand that it is about the relationship between people, God and Satan. At the same time, the text of the message is not very coherent. This may be because Sister Mary was not possessed by the devil, but rather suffered from schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. In the letter, God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are compared to "dead weight." It also states that God was invented by man and that "this system does not work."
