Video: Have astronomers discovered an alien megastructure? 2024, October
Anonim

About 1,480 light years from Earth, there is a star whose behavior puzzles astronomers. It's all about the unusual luminosity dynamics of KIC 8462852, nicknamed the Tabby Star. According to astronomer Bradley Schaefer from Louisiana State University, the vicinity of the star may well be occupied by an extraterrestrial civilization that has built megastructures around the star to collect energy.

Kepler opening

The strange star was discovered by the Kepler telescope on the K2 special mission. Initially, the data was recognized as a system error, but further research showed that the telescope could not be mistaken. Last October, another group of astronomers from Yale University began to study the strange star: they also confirmed the presence of strange fluctuations in the star Tabby. In addition, consistent analysis has shown that the star's glow has dropped by almost a quarter over the past seven years.

Black hole

In fact, a huge black hole could well be responsible for the star's strange behavior. And this theory was also developed by scientists, but received no confirmation. The fact is that for this type of influence, the black hole must be located in the immediate vicinity of the star, which means that gravitational changes would also be noticeable from Earth. In addition, stars trapped in a black hole begin to emit brighter light, but for now everything is exactly the opposite.

Swarm of comets

Of course, practical scientists did not declare any alien civilizations. The working hypothesis was the effect of the swarm of comets on the signals of the star. But the same Schaefer was able to prove that a swarm of comets could not have any effect on the decrease in the brightness of the star - and there is no longer any doubt that the star is starting to go out. The only possible rational reason for this strange behavior can only be recognized as the existence of the so-called Dyson sphere, a megastructure capable of extracting energy directly from the star.

Dyson sphere

Back in 1960, the brilliant American physicist Freeman Dyson put forward a mathematically sound theory that any civilization will sooner or later exhaust its energy reserves. Where to get new ones? The easiest thing to do would be to develop a technology that extracts energy directly from the stars. Astronomers all over the world were forced to agree with the physicist's flawless calculations. A model of a cosmic megastructure was even created, which would be located around the star and would allow pumping energy out of it - the Dyson Sphere.

Rapid extinction

The latest data obtained indicate that the star Tabby is steadily reducing the brightness of the glow, and this happens extremely unevenly. A series of blackouts cannot be explained by any existing theory, except for the one that implies the creation of a highly developed civilization of megastructures in space. Roughly speaking, we really have physical confirmation of the existence of extraterrestrial civilizations.
