According to Altai shamans, the disturbed mummy of “Princess Kadyn” has been causing an emergency, social unrest and natural disasters for twenty years.

Princess Kadyn is the legendary progenitor of the Altai people. The Ukok Plateau is the most beautiful and mysterious place in Altai Mountains. It has long attracted the attention of archaeologists who were looking for Scythian sites, burials and stone altars of a nomadic civilization there.

And in the summer of 1993, specialists from the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences began excavating a mound located in the Ak-Alakha river basin.

Removing the embankment from the permafrost, scientists discovered an ancient plundering manhole that led to the burial of a rich Scythian. In the "other world" he was accompanied by "necessities": three horses, iron knives and clay utensils.

Archaeologists began to carefully remove the contents of the tomb, untouched by the robbers, and then, unexpectedly, the second burial appeared under the first burial.

There they were awaited by a real sensation: under the flooring were the remains of 6 horses in the richest harness, and under them in the sarcophagus lay the mummy of a woman of European appearance, not typical of the locals.

When the press reported about the find, the Altai began to claim that this woman was the progenitor of the Altai people - the legendary “princess Kadyn”.

Both burials were built at the same time - approximately in the 4th-3rd centuries. BC. Moreover, the first saved the second from looting, which was strikingly different in structure. It was a larch blockhouse, imitating a dwelling and all filled with ice. Inside there was a long sarcophagus log with a gable roof in the form of a boat, hollowed out in solid larch. On all sides it had leather appliqués depicting deer.

Scientists were struck by the amount of work that the ancient builders had to do. They needed to somehow deliver huge logs to the treeless Ukok plateau, dig a large hole in the frozen ground. Moreover, to make an unusual crypt, although the noble Scythians at that time were buried on a huge wooden bed, as in the upper burial. Even in our time, it is not so easy to do all this.

In a deck on her right side, with her head to the east and facing north, a young woman, about 25 years old, was lying on a bed of dark felt. From above it was covered with a fur blanket with sewn gold foil ornaments. The mummy's head was on a felt pillow.

The woman was dressed in a long, knee-length, brownish-yellow silk shirt made of wild silkworm threads, all the seams, as well as the neck and edges of the sleeves, were trimmed with red woolen cords.

At that time, even the noble Scythian warriors-horsemen, buried in Ukok, did not have shirts: they were dressed in fur coats over their naked bodies. In addition, the mummy was wearing a long woolen skirt, made of three horizontally arranged wide panels - two red and one white. Bronze pendants and a belt made of braided red woolen cord were sewn onto the skirt.

On the legs of the mummy were long, above the knees, stockings made of white felt, decorated on top with an applique made of red felt. Apparently, the red color in decoration and some details of clothing had a protective meaning: it protected from evil spirits.

The woman's neck was decorated with a wooden torch with wooden pendants in the form of leopards, covered with gold foil, attached to it. Images of these animals were supposed to protect one of the vulnerabilities of a person - his neck. The ears were decorated with gold hoop earrings, and the little fingers were decorated with colored woolen threads.

In a felt bag ("cosmetic bag") next to the woman was a bronze mirror in a wooden frame with a deer carved on it, a horsehair tassel, glass Indian beads of different colors, a molar human tooth, and scattered blue powder. It turned out to be vivianite, a cheap dye that only became known in Europe in the 19th century.

Tattoos of sacred animals are visible on the body of the mummy. Most of all scientists were struck by the beautifully preserved embalmed body of a young woman, who looked like she was alive. After all, the excavations were carried out not in Egypt, India or Tibet, where embalming was practiced, but on the hard-to-reach plateau of the Altai Mountains.

It turned out that after death, the mummy's brain, internal organs, ribs and sternum were removed, and the skull and abdominal cavity were filled with a substance like peat, sheep wool, horse hair, roots, sand and clay.

The body, covered with oil and resins with added mercury, clearly shows a blue tattoo, completely covering both of the woman's arms. A fantastic animal is depicted on the left shoulder: it looks like a deer, but with two types of horns on its head - a deer and an ibex, and the muzzle ended in the beak of a griffin - a fabulous winged creature, half lion, half eagle.

The same stylized head of a griffin ended each branch of deer antlers. Also, the tattoo depicted a ram, a snow leopard and a fantastic predator with a tiger's tail and terrible clawed paws.

In the burial chamber, next to the block, two low wooden table-dishes were found. On them lay the best pieces of meat: the fat-tailed part of a ram and the rump of a foal, into which a large iron knife was stuck. Perhaps those who were buried believed that a long journey awaited the deceased, and these were supplies "for the road."

The unique mummy was taken from Altai and delivered to the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, later it was restored by scientists from the Research Center for Biological Structures (“Mausoleum Institute”) in Moscow.

The appearance of the "princess Kadyn" was so different from the Scythians - tall, thin, aristocratic features of a European face, that immediately questions arose that scientists could not answer. Who was this amazing woman during her lifetime? Where is her homeland? How did she get to the Altai Mountains?

Star Crew Member

More and more scientists are inclined to believe that the origin of people, or at least teaching them the basics of civilized life, is associated with visits to Earth by aliens from other planets. If we analyze the ancient legends, then the find on the Altai Ukok plateau fits into this hypothesis.

There was an ancient legend in local folklore telling about the "princess Kadyn". Before the arrival of the Scythians here, it was as if there were beings who descended from the stars and possessed supernatural powers on a high-mountain plateau. And somewhere among the highest mountain peaks, the mysterious Huandi lived. One day, he and part of his "team" entered a fire-breathing dragon, cast from copper, and flew home to the stars. And the rest of the team lived for some time among earthlings and died a natural death.

Many researchers believe that the legendary Huangdi was the captain of the ship that brought the team of alien scientists to Earth, and the "Princess Kadyn" was a member of the stellar crew. A number of facts support this hypothesis.

Judging by the richness of the funeral "dowry", the deceased had to occupy a very high place in the social hierarchy, something like a leader or leader. But the Scythians never had women, as well as influential shamans.

Natives of other nationalities among the Scythians did not enjoy great influence, let alone power. So the "princess Kadyn" could not be a representative of any European nationalities. In this case, she should have been brought to Altai from afar as a child, since such a journey took years, not months. Even if this were so, she would not have had time to "break out into the people" in her new place of residence.

Image of Chi Yu in Chinese mythology. Obviously, it was not by chance that an unusual sarcophagus-deck was chosen for her burial, similar to the "fire-breathing dragon made of copper", in which the legendary Huangdi flew home to the stars. Those who saw the “princess Kadyn” off to another world, apparently, believed that she would follow him.

Finally, even if we close our eyes to the striking difference between the alien princess and the races that lived in Altai, how to explain why over the millennia her mummy remained in its original form, as if the ritual took place only yesterday?

Recently, archaeologists became aware of a find made in Altai in the immediate vicinity of the Russian border in the Chinese province of Zizhou. During the excavations, the tomb of a certain Chi Yu was discovered, whom Chinese archaeologists seriously consider Huangdi's assistant.

But if the Huangdi team can still be considered a human being, then Chi Yu, according to Chinese experts, turned out to be a half-humanoid, half-cyborg. After that, the Ukok plateau and the surrounding area, which have been considered a "haven of the gods" among local residents since time immemorial, were declared by UNESCO a "Peace Zone" and included in the list of the Earth's world heritage.

A series of disasters

The Altai princess immediately made it clear: she is unhappy with the fact that they disturbed her peace. Archaeologists are not superstitious people, but even they remember that when excavations began on the Ukok plateau, thunder rumbled in the absolutely clear sky. The Altaians accompanying the expedition were terribly frightened and declared: "Princess Kadyn is angry."

Nevertheless, the excavations continued. When archaeologists began to take out the mummy, a strong earthquake began: everyone jumped out of the pit, fearing that its walls would collapse. The earth literally slipped from under their feet, and yet they removed the body.

Two trucks, on which they were going to carry the find, suddenly broke down. The archaeologists called a helicopter, but its engine failed on the approach to Barnaul. After the repair, he nevertheless flew in and "Princess Kadyn" was sent to Moscow. And there, after her arrival, the famous events of 1993 took place, which almost caused a civil war …

But in Altai, especially not far from the Ukok plateau, high-profile emergencies began to occur, disturbing the public. For example, high-ranking officials will fly by helicopter to hunt and crash. Or the children of oligarchs will come to snowboard and they will also crash.

Later, when the mummy was placed in a glass sarcophagus as an exhibit in the museum of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the SB RAS, earthquakes began in Altai. Several thousand tremors were recorded there every year.

According to local shamans, "Princess Kadyn" demanded that she be returned to the ice capsule to the burial place. This, in particular, was evidenced by a sharp climate change: instead of a 40-degree heat in summer, it began to snow.

Spiritual leaders and indigenous people of Altai consider "Princess Kadyn" to be their progenitor. From the first days they demanded to return the mummy back and bury or create appropriate conditions on the Altai land for its storage. However, scientists categorically refused to do this, citing the fact that the republic does not have the necessary conditions for storing this unique archaeological site.

Now the scandal between Novosibirsk scientists and the Altai authorities, which lasted 17 years, is close to resolution. Scientists have agreed to send the mummy to Gorno-Altaysk, where the reconstruction of the local museum ends. A kind of mausoleum in the form of a burial mound will be erected there, where the "Altai princess" will rest. Going down into which below ground level, visitors will be able to see a sarcophagus with a mummy in a glass-vacuum capsule.

Time will tell if "Princess Kadyn" will agree with her new location …
