Experts reported this on the 25th anniversary of the discovery of the mummy
A group of specialists from Italy managed to find out what the voice of a man who lived more than five thousand years ago was, whose mummy was discovered in 1991. As it turned out, the "ice man" or Etzi spoke rather hoarsely, but the timbre of his voice was about the same as that of modern people.
Ötzi was discovered in the Ötztal Alps at an altitude of 3200 meters. In honor of the name of this place "ice man" and got his nickname. It is believed that this mummy is the oldest ever found in Europe. It is believed that a man who lived about 5,300 ago died in an unequal battle, after which his body was frozen, due to which it has survived to this day.
For two and a half decades, the find was of great interest to specialists. Various groups of researchers decoded the ice man's genome, reconstructed his alleged appearance, examined 57 tattoos found on his skin, found that Etzi probably suffered from arthritis, found harmful bacteria in his intestines, and restored his clothes and equipment.
In a new study, scientists have come close to obtaining information about how Etzi's voice sounded. For this, specialists, using tomography data, recreated the vocal tract of an ancient man. As it turned out, the "ice man" spoke at a frequency characteristic of modern people between 100 and 150 gigahertz.
Experts admit that they hardly managed to accurately reproduce the voice that Etzi possessed. However, the "audio recordings" presented by them, according to experts, can serve as a good "starting point" for further research in this direction.
Scientists announced their discovery during a conference timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the discovery of the Etzi mummy.
