The inhabitants of Dar es Salaam, the main metropolis and economic capital of Tanzania, suffer from overcrowding and expensive housing. At the same time, the abundance of quite decent and even beautiful buildings that remain empty is striking.
The reason, the Sunday Times writes, is that Tanzanians regard them as "bad," that is, at the mercy of evil spirits who will certainly make life unbearable for anyone who dares to move there. Any advances in modern technology and psychology are not a hindrance to this conviction.
If a Tanzanian feels uncomfortable in his home, often spends sleepless nights, then I am sure that the house is in the power of evil spirits. Therefore, even in the prestigious quarters, where there are luxurious villas and where the rich dream to move, you can find empty buildings for years.
Neighbors, looking around fearfully, usually whisper: “Brother, do not try to be deceived by a pleasant appearance. Better stay away from this house, the last tenant stayed there no more than two weeks, and then quickly packed up and disappeared."
Among the troubles that the wretches have allegedly survived, and which neighbors and acquaintances are ready to talk about, are leapfrog with the light turning on and off, then with the unexpectedly arising sound of water pouring from the tap, or with the inaudible noise of human speech.
Those who dared to walk through the house during such a "poltergeist" found all the taps open, the gas on the stoves burning even when the cylinder was not connected. Particularly notorious in Dar es Salaam is one expensive mansion in the prestigious Mbezi Beach area, which has been abandoned for almost five years.
The tenants left it one by one, because at night they were kept awake by a strange-looking stranger who wandered the corridor for no reason. According to the description given by the poor fellow, the neighbors recognized him as the long-deceased former owner of the house.
The fears of being at the mercy of evil spirits are so strong among the inhabitants of Dar es Salaam that many of them regularly turn to the famous pastor in the city, John Gabriel, who is considered a specialist in expelling ghosts and other harmful representatives of evil spirits.
