The Center for Humanitarian Programs organized an action to clean up the cromlech located in the village of Nizhnyaya Eshera.
Cromlech in the village of Nizhnyaya Eshera has been cleared of bushes by the efforts of the capital's youth, the organizer of the event, Inna Zhuravleva, told Sputnik.
“This cromlech is located in the courtyard of a school destroyed during the war. It has not been cleaned for a long time and it is overgrown. So we came to clear the monument of history from thickets. Our main goal is to draw the attention of the public, government agencies to our monuments, which, as you can see, are overgrown. Many schoolchildren do not even know what it is - cromlechs. We want to popularize historical and architectural monuments and their preservation in the society. If we do not preserve our history, then the future generation will simply not see it,”she said.
Zhuravleva noted that the event was organized by an initiative group at the Center for Humanitarian Thresholds, and those wishing to take part in the cleaning of the historical and architectural monument were searched through groups in social networks.
“There are not so many of us, but we hope that after covering such events in social networks, we will be able to draw attention not only to this cromlech, but also to those located in other parts of the republic, for example, to the one in the village of Otkhara , - stressed the organizer.
Inna Zhuravleva is an archaeologist and historian by education. She told the children that the cromlechs belong to the megalithic culture. An ancient megalith is located in the courtyard of an inactive school. In 1969, he was discovered by a local history teacher. Later, archaeologist Georgy Shamba was engaged in its study.
Having excavated an ancient sanctuary, the finds amazed archaeologists - more than five hundred items: ceramics, daggers, arrowheads, pins, pendants, buckles, beads decorated with semi-precious stones, as well as many human bones. According to archaeologists, stones for the cromlechs were delivered from a limestone quarry five kilometers away.
Cromlechs appeared about four thousand years ago. For two millennia they acted as ritual objects, and were abandoned only with the arrival of the Romans here at the beginning of our era.
