The Fontainebleau forest is located about 60 km southeast of Paris. It has an area of 280 km2 and is one of the largest and most beautiful forests in France. On weekends, the forest of Fontainebleau is visited by thousands of people who want to escape the capital, take a walk and enjoy the beauty of nature.

However, in ancient times the situation was different. The forest has a long history.

For centuries, this old forest has been more or less isolated from the outside world. Except for some criminals who fled from the law, few had the courage to enter the ancient "Beer Forest", this is the old name of the forest. Its dark, narrow caves and tall old trees provide perfect hideouts for escaped prisoners and bandits.

Ancient legends say that the Fontainebleau forest was guarded by a group of mysterious creatures. People believed that the Big or Black Hunter guarded the old forest and defied anyone who tried to get through it. The Black Hunter was always accompanied by a pack of vicious dogs. These legends in ancient times frightened off visitors. All this led to the fact that the fauna and flora, and the forest itself, remained largely an unknown place. Ordinary people did not visit the forest either during the day, much less at night.

Drawings on stones and boulders in the Fontainebleau forest are accompanied by a large number of encrypted symbols. It is very difficult to determine the age of the mysterious inscriptions on the walls, the evidence we know of human presence in these places dates back to about 40,000 years ago, that is, the late Paleolithic era. Later, in the Neolithic era, the first settlements of people appeared here, later on the outskirts of the forest Celts and Ligurs began to settle.

But archaeologists have discovered crosses, circles, lines, and other structured patterns that appear to be of prehistoric origin.

A large number of curious and inexplicable inscriptions, drawings and signs have been found in caves and on rocks in the Fontainebleau forest. These ancient images cover over 200 km 2.

A number of ancient symbols and signs were carved very deeply into the rocks and walls of caves in the most inaccessible places. In some cases, the passage to the cave was so narrow that researchers could only stick one hand inside to touch the mesh pattern.

Why would anyone carve out a symbol or sign that no one else can see? The true purpose of these ancient signs and symbols remains a mystery.

In confusion, scientists-archaeologists and historians ask the question: could an ancient, now lost civilization, once inhabited the forest of Fontainebleau? But ancient rock carvings suggest that people lived in some forest caves many thousands of years ago. This means that the forest is older than previously thought, and that we have stumbled upon traces of a lost civilization.

In the early sixties, Robert Gonzo, an amateur archaeologist, discovered Neolithic tombs in the center of Fontainebleau. One of them was located on giant blocks. It is unknown if these blocks are natural or deliberately created by prehistoric people. Inside the tomb, Gonzo found several small stone sculptures and tablets.

Some scientists quickly called the stone sculptures natural formations, they preferred to forget about the found tablets and inscriptions on the rocks, and the case was closed. However, the drawings and netting turned out to be more interesting and surprising for those who nevertheless decided to study them. The tablets for them were no doubt covered with ideograms representing the writing system! And this meant that an advanced civilization capable of writing inhabited Europe long before it became available to historians.

It is still too early to say with complete certainty that the ideograms carved on the tablets found in the Fontainebleau forest are actually part of an ancient unknown script. However, based on other ancient discoveries in Europe, such as the Terteria tablets and the Vinca symbols, it is safe to say that perhaps an ancient unknown civilization capable of writing inhabited the Fontainebleau forest many thousands of years ago.

Last but not least, some of the rocks in the Fontainebleau forest depict animals that do not belong to this geographic region. Here you can find stones in the shape of an elephant, a seal and a bird of prey. There are also large stone sculptures that depict people and you can clearly see the face on them!

Who were these people? Where did they come from? Why did they disappear?

The truth is, the history of the Fontainebleau forest is being hushed up, and this ancient site deserves more attention. The forest of Fontainebleau is still waiting for us to discover its true past. The ancient secrets of a lost civilization that was once here are carved into old rocks and cave walls. No one can tell us anything about the people of the mysterious race that inhabited this region.

There were no witnesses left … except for old trees and stones …
