As they note, the probability of a celestial body falling to Earth and the subsequent catastrophe (end of the world) is extremely high - 1 in 625. This will lead to the death of millions of people, but the complete extinction of mankind will not occur, the experts promised and cited a 14-kilometer asteroid as an example. because of which all dinosaurs disappeared.
Between 2013 and 2016, asteroid 2011 AG5 will be at a convenient distance for observation, and then experts will be able to name its exact size. Information regarding the degree of probability of its fall to the Earth may also change.
Now scientists are busy searching and developing ways to help prevent a celestial body from colliding with the planet. Among the proposed options is the creation of a rocket that will catch the asteroid and take it to a safe distance, or crash into it and shift its trajectory. The use of nuclear weapons as an option was also considered, but rejected, because fragments from an asteroid can fall on the Earth in the form of a meteor shower.
