They started talking about the small village of Vilya on the banks of the Oka River in the early 2000s, when the mysterious skeleton of a creature unknown to science was discovered by local residents near the settlement. This find was quickly dubbed the "Russian Chupacabra" in the media. Only later, when the noise in pseudo-scientific circles subsided, it became known that this creature is in fact an ordinary fox. An unknown hunter simply sanded the carcass, taking away the front paws, and left the skinned body lying in the snow as unnecessary.
But the village of Vilya is famous not only for this hyped news. Strangeness happened in these places exactly as long as a person lives here. Near the village there is a glade, nicknamed by local shepherds Korovya - in the sky above it, luminous objects, dancing lights and plasma balls were repeatedly seen. Vilya has a rich history: here was the lair of the famous robber Vasily Roshchin, here the fourth wife of Ivan the Terrible, who fell into disgrace, languished in dungeon, and it was here that the first railway plant of the Roshchin brothers, famous for their inhuman cruelty, was built.
At the beginning of the twenty-first century, against the background of the fox's body taken for an extraterrestrial being, interest in Vila increased significantly. Ufologists, conspiracy theorists and the pseudo-scientific diaspora of researchers rushed to the village as on a pilgrimage. And then, thanks to a thorough study of historical chronicles and local evidence, forgotten or little-known details from the history of the settlement began to emerge.
