Johnson received it for 6 whole years - from 1973 to 1979. In addition, he had to formulate a new theory of spins of unpaired electrons, the concept of which in the scientific world is not.

But as soon as you put it on the rails, it began to roll. As it was running, the cart wound round after round, despite the rusty bearings. Barden watched her for several hours as if spellbound.
Howard Johnson's motor works like this: the rotor, with permanent magnets attached to it, rotates around the stator. Flat permanent magnets are also installed on the stator. The rotary ones are arranged in a special way, in a staggered manner, to exclude parasitic currents. They are made in the shape of a horseshoe. All clearances and angles are precisely calculated - both the distances between the ferromagnets on the stator and the gap between the stator and rotor ones. All permanent magnets are made of samarium - a cobalt alloy (and, as a disadvantage, are very expensive). The arcuate rotor magnets move along the flat stator magnets, constantly accelerating. This is caused by the imbalance of the magnetic fields and the resulting force gradient in the direction of the rotor torsion. It should be added that the stator and rotor base consists of a material with a high magnetic permeability index.

Patent data, drawings, distances and clearances are detailed in open sources and anyone can create an engine. There are only two difficulties - the price of magnets and strict adherence to proportions and distances.
Howard Johnson came up with a whole theory to explain the principle of his mechanism. In his opinion, the driving force of the installation is the energy extracted from the spins of unpaired electrons (an incomprehensible explanation not only for this article, but for the entire scientific world) in a ferromagnetic alloy under the influence of magnetic fields of different directions. Thus, energy is generated not due to the movement of electrons, but due to the superconducting properties of a magnet and a controlled magnetic flux.

Some well-known scientists believe that this machine is a confirmation of the theory of "ether", since one simply cannot do without it. Logically, in the theory of "ether", the magnetic field is its specific state, a kind of ether vortex.
Of course, Johnson's device doesn't generate that much power - just 5 kW in the original model. Which gave rise to some skeptics to declare that this is just a toy. It may be a toy, but mind you, it violates the law of conservation of energy.
