In the documents declassified by the CIA, materials were found about the experiments on clairvoyance and biolocation, which were carried out by the United States and the USSR in the second half of the XX century, reports Republic.

According to the documents, the CIA and the Pentagon took up the study of parapsychology in the early 1970s after receiving information about such studies by the Soviet Union. Fearing a "psychic war," Washington has spent more than $ 10 million on paranormal research in 20 years.

In the Soviet Union, the existence of such projects was not officially confirmed, but American intelligence is confident that the experiments were still carried out. It is emphasized that Soviet research in the field of parapsychology started in the second half of the 1950s. The official Soviet research program started in the early 1960s. According to the former KGB Major General Oleg Kalugin, the development of weapons for "psychic warfare" was initiated by Yuri Andropov, who headed the State Security Committee.

The experiments were carried out by hundreds of Soviet scientists in Moscow, Leningrad, Novosibirsk, Baku and Alma-Ata. According to unofficial data, more than 30 centers for the study of paranormal phenomena functioned in the USSR, for which 13 million rubles were allocated (about $ 12 million at the rate of that time). However, research results have rarely been impressive. Kirill Leontovich, an employee of one of the Soviet laboratories, admitted that citizens who pretended to be psychics often turned out to be swindlers.

The program included projects that could be used for intelligence and military purposes. These included, in particular, clairvoyance (for collecting information about remote places), telepathy (for communication or influencing the consciousness of people) and telekinesis.

The Pentagon report said there was evidence of how parapsychological developments were being applied in Soviet military operations. Following the example of the USSR, the American military worked in the same direction, who, in particular, "used biolocation during the Vietnam War to find enemy shelters."

American intelligence admitted that the USSR was superior to the United States in the study of parapsychology. The director of the Texas Center for the Study of Hypnosis, Edward Pullman, argued that in the near future the USSR would begin sending psychic diplomats abroad, capable of separating the spirit from the body and mentally penetrating other people's secret objects. However, according to American departments, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the advantage over the United States was lost.
