The Dyatlov Pass has long been considered one of the most mysterious places on the planet. The death of a tourist group that occurred in these places has overgrown with a colossal number of legends. However, now there is a chance to find out what really happened then.

Recall that in 1959 a tourist group led by Igor Dyatlov went to the Northern Urals. On the night of February 1–2, 9 people left their tent for some unknown reason. For some time they moved along the slope, then separated. Three weeks later, rescuers appeared in the area. They found the bodies of tourists.

The state in which the dead members of the Dyatlov group were found gave rise to many versions of the yeti, aliens, radioactive radiation and even temporary insanity. Now a much more “prosaic” version was voiced by one of the residents of Verkhoturye, a former hunter, Anatoly Stepochkin.

The man, who recently turned 72 years old, showed reporters a gun, which he exchanged back in 1981 with a Khanty - a representative of the local people. He confessed to the hunter that he allegedly personally participated in the massacre of Dyatlov's tourist group.

According to the new version, it was the Khanty who killed the tourists. This people considers themselves the master of those lands where the route of the Dyatlov group ran. Khanty consider these places sacred and protect them from outsiders.

Apparently, Igor Dyatlov and his students ended up in the forbidden local possessions. Stepochkin assures that the group stumbled upon a cave in which "sacrifices" were laid: furs, gold and platinum. They allegedly took the Khanty treasures into their hands. For this, the angry natives decided to kill them.

Stepochkin assures that the Khanty attacked the tourists at night. His interlocutor, with whom he once exchanged a gun, said that the locals made a hole in the tent of tourists, and the shamans threw intoxicating smoke there. People began to jump out, after which the Khanty caught them and killed them.

The statement raises many questions. First of all, no evidence of the allegedly discovered cave was found in the tourist records. There is also no photo. In addition, the Khanty are considered a rather peaceful people.

Nevertheless, the police are checking the version voiced by Stepochkin. The fact that the killing of tourists could be of a ritual nature has already been stated by some experts.
