Some stories even say that they are cannibals and with their songs they lure people to the seabed and devour them there. The question arises: is there a male type similar to sirens? Are there fish people?
From mythology, we can actually learn about the existence of a large number of such strange creatures that from time immemorial people have met them. But myths are myths, but is there any real confirmation of this?

The creature jumped out of the water like an arrow and immediately disappeared into the sea again. According to Wagner, local ichthyandras, which the aborigines talk about as something everyday, live in groups of 40-50 creatures and sometimes swim with the "whole family", lined up in a line. • 1989 - Menorca. A group of tourists sailed on a yacht along the coast. They noticed something they thought was a group of three dolphins. Stunned, they realized that they were actually three people. The chest of these creatures was human, but the hind limbs were missing, instead of them - a huge fish tail. Tourists watched the strange dolphins for only a few seconds, then they swam away. Two people who saw them claim that they very much resembled sirens, but were men.
• 1992 - Costa da Morte, Galicia. The fisherman assures that, while swimming along the coast, he saw a humanoid creature in the water. It seemed to him impossible that someone could be there. The fisherman called out to him, and then the shadow made a circle and floated in the direction of the boat. Then she slightly poked her head out of the water, which looked like a human. His eyes were wide open, and his entire face was covered with hair, very thin dark brown. The strange creature had limbs that looked like hands, completely covered with scales.
Man from Liergan
Perhaps this is a single documented case. The appearance of the Spanish fish-man has been documented in many sources, and also quite seriously studied from a scientific point of view.
The episode with the fish-man from Liergan was narrated in the 18th century by the monk Jeronimo Feihu, who chronicled the fact that supposedly took place on June 23, 1674. One teenager was swimming in the river with his friends. Suddenly he disappeared from sight. Hours passed, then days. In the end, he was pronounced dead, but the body was never found.
5 years later, fishermen working in a bay in Cadiz saw a strange creature in the water. It looked like a person and made strange sounds. Then the creature disappeared under the water. The episode was subsequently repeated, for several days the same thing always happened, and the fishermen came to the conclusion that they had met with a monster. But there was something strange about that, because as time went on, the creature seemed to want to swim closer and closer to the fishermen. Despite the screams it emitted, it did not seem hostile. The fishermen tried to catch this creature, but. when approached, the monster disappeared under the water. Finally, he was caught in a net with pieces of bread as bait. When the creature was on board, the fishermen saw that it looked more like a person than an animal. It was a young man of stout build,with pale skin and short reddish hair. Notable were a row of scales that ran from the throat to the stomach, and another row that covered the entire spinal column.
Expelling an animal
When the strange creature was caught, the fishermen took it to the monastery of St. Francis, where an act of exorcism was performed over the fish-man. After that, they tried to interrogate him, but the creature did not speak. Only a few days later it uttered the strange word "liergan". No one could understand what this means, until suddenly, by chance, one young man said that he knew a village called Liergan. The Inquisition began to investigate this case, interviewed everyone in the village, but did not find anything strange or anomalous there, except for the disappearance of one teenager many years ago.
One of the researchers of the monster from Liergan, as this creature began to be called, thought that he might have something to do with this village, and took him there. The closer they got to Liergan, the better the fish-man was oriented. And when they arrived in Liergan at his mother's house, she and her two sons recognized the strange creature as a family member.
A welcome meeting took place, but the fish-man, as before, did not speak, he walked naked. After 9 years, he left the house, went towards the sea, and no one else heard anything about him …
The Fishman and Cretinism
Of course, a cretin is easy to associate with cretinism. But it should be understood that there is one difference. A cretin is a stupid creature that is not in itself. Cretinism is a disease that is expressed not only in mental retardation, but also affects the physical condition of the body.
Dr. Gregorio Marañon in the 20th century became interested in the history of a man from Liergan and began to investigate this case. From the doctor's point of view, the fish-man suffered from cretinism, and this was the reason that he forgot how to speak and behaved strangely. The doctor believed that the young man was lost, and then he appeared in Cadiz, but he did not necessarily reach this place by swimming. Dr. Marañon argued that the strange appearance of a watery creature, scaly deformities and pale facial skin were actually ichthyosis, an inherited dermatological condition that causes skin changes and scaly.
However, the fish-man was distinguished by the fact that he swam excellently, spent a long time entering and had great resistance to diving. From the point of view of Dr. Marañon, the young man's fascination with the sea could only be a passion, and the doctor linked his ability to stay under water for a long time with an underdeveloped thyroid gland, which occurs in people with the aforementioned disease. The less the thyroxine hormone is secreted by the thyroid gland, the less oxygen is needed and the easier it is to stay under water for a long time.
Lizard man
1988 - In Bishopsville, South Carolina, many people claimed that they had seen a strange creature that looked like a yeti. Everyone was seriously worried, not because this creature was more than two meters tall, but because it did not have wool, like Bigfoot, but a greenish skin, which was covered with scales. From a distance, the creature looked like a huge man, but at first glance it seemed like a giant two-legged lizard.
Face to face with the monster
Of all the eyewitnesses to the so-called lizard-man, only D. H. Sullivan met him in daylight. He met the monster on the banks of the Scape Or river. The man heard a strange sound … “It seemed to me that something quickly flashed in front of me. I thought I was alone in this place, and the shadow that I suddenly saw frightened me … I saw a vague figure rapidly approaching me. She looked intimidating, so I quickly got into the car. The man told about the incident, fellow villagers. Most of them laughed at his story, but a few days later the police appeared at the eyewitness's house. As you can see, there were similar cases: other cars were found with similar scratches. And yet Sullivan was the only one who managed to take a very close look at the creature. He gave a description that coincided with the descriptions of other eyewitnesses: the skin was greenish, shiny and as if wet. He could not see the face of the monster, he saw only a glimpse of a large head, one might say, disproportionate in relation to the whole body. For everything else, he argued that the creature was more than two meters tall, it was of a dense build, there were claws on the feet and on what appeared to be hands. Sullivan noted that the arms were like monkey paws.
Lizard man has been around for several years. No one has been able to solve this mystery. Who was this terrible monster? Was it a strange mutation, or was it one of the many creatures yet to be discovered?
