The 29-year-old Turk Sultan Kosen, who has been recognized as the tallest man in the world for several years, has finally stopped in his quest for height. His height at the moment is 2 meters 51 centimeters.
However, not by itself. A year and a half ago, a Turk underwent an innovative and complex operation with a gamma knife. Sultan began to grow at the age of 10, when a tumor formed in his pituitary gland, producing huge amounts of growth hormone. For nearly two decades, it has grown to 2.5 meters. With such growth, a threat to his life arose - the skeleton could not withstand the load at any time.
In 2008, the Sultan underwent the first operation, which removed the tumor. However, the growth of the Turk did not stop. Only in 2010 at the University of Virginia, after testing the latest method of treatment, doctors managed to achieve a result. Now they say with confidence that the Sultan has finally stopped growing.
Despite this, Sultan Kosen will obviously remain in the Guinness Book of Records for a long time. In addition to a record in height, he owns, according to the compilers of the book of unusual achievements, also a record in the size of hands - the distance from the wrist to the tip of the middle finger is 28.5 cm.
The Sultan considers his growth a disadvantage and life difficult, although he recognizes that being so tall has its advantages as well. For example, he easily hangs the curtains at home for mom without stairs.
