Scientists have recently revealed the incredible secrets of the real "King Kongs". As it turned out, these animals really lived on Earth, and became extinct 100 thousand years ago. Researchers from Germany sorted out this issue.
"King Kongs", the largest primates in the entire history of the Earth, lived about 100 thousand years ago. This was stated by scientists working at the Senckenberg Center for Human Evolution and Paleoenvironment in Tübingen and the Senckenberg Research Institute in Frankfurt. As the specialists managed to calculate, they were simply huge - 3 meters high and weighing about half a ton.
These giant primates died out when the forests turned into savannas, they simply could not adapt to the new habitat. In order to establish this, experts examined their tooth enamel. She showed that they lived exclusively in woodlands, and, interestingly, they were vegetarians.
To complicate the task for the experts, the remains of these animals, which in science are called gigantopithecus, were very few: only teeth and a little from the jaw. By the way, the remains were found in Thailand and China. But, all the same, it is very little. Therefore, little was found out. There are suggestions that the King Kongs were not climbed on trees, as they were too huge. They also required a lot of water for their existence, and when it became not enough, they became extinct.
