This is how the journalists described the situation in the state of Manipur in India. Here, on June 4 of this year, a huge crack in the ground suddenly formed: about three kilometers long and several meters wide.

In addition, this giant earth cleft continues to grow, and today the locals already have more than five kilometers of a ragged fracture in the earth's surface, which swallowed up dozens of houses and other structures, spreading from village to village. Of course, agricultural lands also suffered from this.

The numerous sinkholes that accompany this giant rift have even created new bodies of water, particularly near the village of Kalihola, damaging the local power line. To date, the authorities have already evacuated more than three hundred people from the dangerous area, but the situation continues to worsen.

According to Deputy Commissioner Ranjit (Rajit), it is not only the growth of the crack that is alarming, which in itself creates many problems, numerous pilgrims rushed to the area of the disaster - they are attracted here by ordinary human curiosity. Therefore, we still have to fight this obsession, so that the "tourists" who do not observe any precautions do not suffer.

There is another problem, Rajit complains, it is spreading rumors that a nearby volcano is waking up, which is why, they say, the earth is cracking. All this whips up unnecessary fear on the local population and therefore it becomes more and more difficult to work, since there is nothing worse than human panic. We have to explain to people for a long time that there are no active volcanoes in this area, and that in general in the state of Manipur in India, only the Andaman Islands, which are too far away, can be called a dangerous volcanic region.
