According to doctors, Alice Lawson, who was only a year and two months old, was hopeless. After meningitis, a stroke with renal failure, the girl was in a coma in a hospital in the English city of Scunthorpe, connected to life-supporting devices.
In fact, it is not her, but her body, which will no longer be able to breathe on its own, the doctors said. And then the girl's parents decided that since their daughter was dying, even if her organs would save the life of someone else. It was decided to disconnect the girl from the artificial respiration apparatus. The transplant team was already waiting in a ward nearby.
On the evening before, the parents arrived at Alice's room and spent the last night at their daughter's bed. Jennifer's mom bought balls, which Alice always loved very much. As mom will tell later, in the morning everything was like a fog. They came and began to turn off the devices, the lamps went out. The girl was injected with morphine.
Jennifer thought it was all some kind of nonsense. She talked to her daughter, tried to tell her how much they all love her, imagining that the baby somewhere out there hears and understands everything.
In the photo, mom is kissing a girl who is already disconnected from the devices. “She was so warm, so dear” - Jennifer will say later, who, hugging her daughter, simply could not believe that this was really the last time. It seemed that Alice was just sleeping.
And then a nurse came in and said that transplantologists would not be needed. Then the doctor came in. He told the family what was hard to believe. The doctors looked through the mirrored wall in the next ward and were the first to realize that the girl … began to breathe on her own.
Today Alice is over three years old. This unique event took place in March 2010. The consequences of a severe illness were not in vain for the girl. After the coma, she was like a newborn. I couldn't even hold my head on my own.

Everything that Alice had managed to learn before, she had to learn again. There are other problems as well. One leg is shorter, it is difficult for her to walk - in the future it is planned to undergo surgery to correct this. On the other hand, renal function recovered very well.
Alice goes to a special kindergarten. Learns to count. She rides a bike specially converted for her and draws. When she runs into the kitchen and kisses the puppy on the nose, mom remembers that farewell kiss after which a miracle happened.
Alice is alive and happy with her parents.
