At the heart of Jung's teachings is the idea of a collective unconscious. Climbing into this jungle, the scientist gradually came to the study of mythology, religion and religious rituals.
One day, he was struck by the analogy between typical dreams and hallucinations in some of his patients and alchemical symbolism. To understand the meaning and function of dreams, Jung embarked on a very serious study of alchemical works and spent fifteen years on it! As a result, he discovered archetypes that include alchemical symbols similar to those found in mythology.
The discoveries of the last alchemist of the 20th century showed that archetypes are repeated with surprising constancy in dreams, visions, fantasies and hallucinations of completely different people under completely different circumstances, as well as in the myths of completely different peoples, including those who obviously did not have any contacts with each other.
Jung risked his reputation and, for the sake of convincing evidence of his ideas, turned to an unexpected topic - UFOs. Analyzing the "myth of unidentified flying objects", he writes that the "prelude" to its appearance were mysterious flying shells in the skies over Sweden, which were talked about in the last years of World War II, as well as reports of "fiery fighters" - a special glow. accompanying the Allied bombers on their flights over Germany. Then there were stories of flying saucers over the United States, as if drawn from adventure novels.
Jung is well aware that UFOs cannot be confused with meteors or with reflections associated with temperature inversion in adjacent air layers. He notes "the special interest of UFOs in airfields and industrial enterprises associated with the fission of the atomic nucleus," but is surprised that these "objects", appearing everywhere, still "clearly prefer the United States."
The UFO problem seemed so important to the scientist that he considered it "my duty to sound the alarm," for, as he put it: "My doctor's conscience compels me to warn about the need to prepare for events that mark the end of the era of world history."
Conclusions K. G. Jung are reduced to the following: “People see something, but what it is - is unknown. It is extremely difficult, if not impossible to say, to form any clear idea of these objects, because they behave not like material bodies, but like weightless thoughts."

The scientist calculated that UFOs are 99 percent a "product of spiritual reality." In his opinion, “we are talking about changes that affect the totality of acting psychic dominants, archetypes,“gods”and cause or accompany any epochal modifications of the collective psychic substance. Similar changes took place in the historical period, the beginning of which coincided with the birth of Christianity."
Yet Jung was puzzled by the sheer "physical nature" of these objects; "They have a surface that can be seen with the normal eye and that reflects radar echoes." He comes to the conclusion that in one case this phenomenon belongs to the objective world, that is, it has a physical nature, and in the other, the archetype itself generates the corresponding vision.
Of course, Jung was more interested in the psychic nature of the phenomenon. It is precisely the roundness of bodies - disks or balls - that are the essence of images that are especially often produced in our heads by the sphere of the unconscious as the content of dreams, visions, etc.
“To everyone,” writes K. G. Jung - who knows history and psychology, it is known that rounded symbols have played an essential role everywhere and at all times. For example, in our cultural sphere, they denoted not only the soul, but also the image of God. Thus, in antiquity, UFOs would have been easily perceived as phenomena of beings of divine origin."
We are witnessing a continuous myth-making process. Myths are created in the same way as in the distant past.
Abstract structures of the collective unconscious take on a concrete, understandable and acceptable form for members of the corresponding collective. "We see," writes Jung, "how a fantastic story is created about an attempted invasion, or at least about the approach of extraterrestrial," heavenly "forces."
Modern man, in his opinion, has lost his true faith in the supernatural, but "heavenly signs", which have taken the form of UFOs, in a form specific for the era of scientific and technological progress, remind man of that transcendental world, belief in which is almost completely supplanted by the success of positive sciences.
In 1944, Jung suffered a heart attack and experienced a "near-death state," leaving his body and soaring into space. He surveyed entire continents. Suddenly he saw his doctor, who told him to return to earth, and then Jung realized that his time had not yet arrived, and he "returned." The famous scientist died in his own villa on the shores of Lake Zurich in 1961 at the age of 86.
