Humanity has always painfully tried to answer the question: is there life after death or at the moment of physical departure we disappear forever. Depending on the answer to this question, philosophical and moral teachings and religions were formed. Another attempt to answer it was made by the creators of the series “Beyond the Boundary”.
A dazzling light at the end of the tunnel, a feeling of weightlessness, flickering footage of a past life, an all-consuming feeling of calm … This is how those who suffered clinical death, but did not cross the line, describe their condition. What happens next? Step by step, scientists around the world are approaching the solution.
A mysterious phenomenon occurring on the border of life and death was given the sonorous definition of "near-death experience" (from the English near-death Experiences). It appeared about 30 years ago. American researcher Raymon Moody first used it to describe the condition of people who have been “on the brink”.
Most researchers explain this phenomenon by psychophysiological reasons. For example, some scientists believe that it is caused by physiological changes in the brain, cell death as a result of progressive hypoxia (lack of oxygen). Others view posthumous visions as a reaction to fear of impending death, or as a combination of such a reaction and hypoxia. Still others are inclined to explain it by the consequences of the effects of drugs.
However, a group of Dutch scientists led by Pim Van Lommel proposed their theory, which became a worldwide sensation. The researchers asked themselves: at what point does the “near-death experience” occur? During clinical death, with an absolutely flat line of the electroencephalogram, or at the moment when the brain has already “turned on”? A chance helped to find the answer.
Once a patient was brought to the clinic in a coma. The efforts of doctors - artificial respiration, heart massage - did not give any results. The patient's brain died, the encephalogram stretched out in an ominous green line. When the doctors decided to use intubation and insert a special tube into the larynx, it turned out that the patient had a denture in his mouth. The prosthesis was taken out and placed on a mobile table. An hour and a half later, the patient's heart rate and blood pressure returned to normal. A week later, the "resurrected" asked to return the prosthesis. Doctors did not remember where they put him in a stressful situation. And the patient, down to the details, described the place where to look for the prosthesis. Upon further questioning, it turned out that the man saw himself lying on top of himself in bed. He was able to describe in great detail the ward and the behavior of all those present at the moment of unconditional death, as well as his fear,that doctors will stop resuscitation. The patient also clearly remembered that he was desperately trying to make it clear to the doctors that he was still alive.
This case gave grounds to assume that human consciousness seems to exist independently of the brain, and the physical shell of people is not the only place where our consciousness “dwells”. Does this mean that human consciousness does not die even after the death of the body, death of the brain?
Once again, the audacious theory of the American physiologist Gary Schwartz made the whole world shudder. In his laboratory of human energy systems at the University of Arizona, after a series of experiments, he not only became an adherent of the Dutch theory, but also took, as some experts believe, an important step towards solving death. He was one of the first scientists to take seriously the study of the phenomenon of mediums - people who are able to establish contact with the dead.

Schwartz's conclusions look fantastic. According to the scientist, the energy and information from deceased people is retained in the Universe. People are like stars: they constantly emit invisible photons of light, and these photons rush into space. The fact that our energy, information and our consciousness continue to live is just as likely as the fact that the light from distant, extinct stars thousands of years ago continues to go.
