Melangen tribe
For the first time, this strange tribe, living in the southern Appalachians, stumbled upon French merchants in 1690. The settlement consisted of log cabins, whose inhabitants had olive skin and Caucasoid features. Then the French decided that it was a colony of the Moors.
They were heard again only in 1784. Black "Europeans" called themselves immigrants from Portugal, but they were not believed. By the end of the 18th century, they had settled from Tennessee, where they were first discovered, in parts of Virginia and Kentucky. It is curious that the neighboring Indian tribes called them melangen and in every possible way persecuted them, not mistaking them for “their own”.
One of the theories says that melangens are descendants of three races at once - European, Indian and African. Another is that these are the descendants of the inhabitants of the lost Roanoke colony, whose population mysteriously disappeared …
According to the third version, they are the descendants of Portuguese sailors who were shipwrecked and were forced to stay forever in foreign lands. There are even more fantastic versions, which say that this is a settlement of the ancient Phoenicians or one of the lost tribes of Israel …

Mayerling incident
In January 1889, the Archduke of Austria-Hungary, Crown Prince Rudolph and his beloved, Baroness Maria von Vechera, were found shot to death in a rural hunting lodge in the village of Mayerling near Vienna. The prince's father, Emperor Franz Joseph, gave the order to hush up the case, since his son was officially married to a Belgian princess. The body of Maria von Vecher was secretly taken away and buried. There was no real investigation at that time.
Subsequently, many tried to solve the mystery of the death of a couple in love, but no reliable information regarding the murder itself could be found. The version of double suicide raises great doubts …
Murder at Redpass Mansion
In 1901, the wealthy widow Ada Maria Mills and her son Clifford were murdered in the luxurious Redpass mansion in Montreal.
It is strange that the murder was hushed up from the very beginning. The police were not even called into the mansion. The investigator drew up a report on the notes of the family doctor, who, as it turned out later, did not even visit the crime scene. Mother and son were hastily buried two days after the tragedy.
According to one version, Clifford Mills, who was supposed to take an exam in the Canadian Bar, suffered a nervous breakdown and, in a state of passion, killed his mother, after which he committed suicide … According to another, Ada Maria suffered from severe rheumatoid arthritis and insomnia, and decided on suicide. She shot her son by accident … But none of these versions can be called official.
Disappearance at the Eileen Mor lighthouse
The day after Christmas 1900, a ship arrived on the Scottish island of Eileen More with supplies for the only local inhabitants - the three lighthouse keepers. Usually the rangers were waiting for the ship at the local dock. However, this time there was no one there.
Caretaker Joseph Moore, who arrived on duty, did not find the slightest trace of any of the people on the island. Climbing a narrow staircase carved into the rock leading to the lighthouse, he suddenly experienced a completely irrational sense of fear … Once inside the lighthouse, Joseph found that of the three waterproof jackets usually hung in the hallway, only one remained. Lifeboat on Bouvet Island
The uninhabited Bouvet Island is located in the South Atlantic Ocean, more than 1,700 kilometers north of Antarctica. In 1964, a British expedition arrived here from South Africa. To their surprise, the researchers found an abandoned boat in pretty good condition in the island lagoon. Oars, barrels, a drum, and a brass tank lay nearby.
The things did not have any identification marks that could indicate who they belonged to. Also, there were no human tracks around.
