One of Clark's laws states that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. And if several centuries ago the most accurate way to find out the future was to turn to a shaman or fortuneteller, which could not be called anything other than witchcraft, then in the modern world technologies can come to the rescue. For example, scientists from the University of Michigan (USA) have created a psychic neural network that is literally capable of predicting future events.

The new technology is based on the so-called memristors. Memristors are a special type of resistive device that is capable of both performing logical operations and storing data. In other words, if now, in order to train a neural network, it takes many months of painstaking work in order to "invest" knowledge in a neural network, then memristors (or, as they are also called, reservoir computing systems) work somewhat differently: when such a set of data enters the system, the neural network recognizes their properties and transfers them to the secondary subnet, which analyzes the data and is able to build logical chains between them. Moreover, this approach is great for processing data that changes over time and depends on previous results: spoken language, exchange rates, and so on. Thus, based on experience,which the system acquires in the process of "life", it begins to better understand what will happen in the future and even predict events. As one of the authors of the study, Professor Wei Lu, stated in an interview with phys.org,

“We can predict human speech so you don't even have to pronounce the whole word. If you talk to our neural network for a while, it will be able to predict what you will say in a second."
