Shanti Devi lives in a small village in India. About 25 years ago, she was no different from the rest of the inhabitants of her area, but after the birth of her third child, a son, she fell ill with an unknown disease, which is why she more than halved in size. She is now about 2 feet (60 cm) tall.

The patient cannot bend her head, straighten her arms or stretch her legs - they have shrunk and curled up, becoming so hard that the woman cannot move. She spends all her time in the cradle, muttering or singing. Shanti Devi is forced to ask her children for help.

She has been in this state for more than 20 years - before she could at least crawl or walk, but after the thatched roof of a neighbor's house fell to her feet, the patient could no longer get up. She is bedridden and, according to her, is in great pain. Shanti Devi also said that she is very bored with living this way, and she misses the days when she could walk, chat with her friends and water her plants.

Already women Gangacharan Kushwaha added that before the birth of her third child, his wife never complained of health - but immediately after giving birth she became very slow and weak, and after a few months she admitted that her bones were constantly and very painful.

Shanti Devi began to shrink and, noticing this, shared her concerns about this with her family, but they did not believe her until they saw for themselves that she had become 15 cm shorter in 4 months.

Her husband took her to the doctors, but none of them could help the patient.

“I took her to several hospitals. Where people advised me to turn - there I went, and even when I did not have money, I did not lose hope. But there was no result, and I stopped doing it,”said the patient's husband.

For over 10 years, Shanti Devi has not been to a doctor, and her condition remains a mystery to her family - but at the same time attracts tourists to her village. People specially travel from afar just to look at her.

Local physician Pankaj Srivastava suggested that the patient may have osteogenesis imperfecta, also known as the "crystal man disease." This is a rare genetic disorder in which the bones lack collagen and become brittle.
