The remains of unknown animals were found by a farm worker, Brizio Saldivar. They were in the hay in the barn of an old winery in the small town of Monte Patria, in the eastern Chilean province of Limari.
Frightened by the find, Saldivar ran to the owner of the farm, Javier Prochens, who was having dinner at that time, and after that they went to examine the remains together. At first they thought they were the mummified skeletons of two bats. But upon closer examination, people realized that the remains were too large for bats.
In the neighborhood, everyone had heard about the terrible Chupacabra, a mythical bloodsucker monster that attacks goats and other animals, and someone put forward a version that these are the remains of a Chupacabra. Soon the news that the Chupacabra or its cubs were found spread throughout the neighborhood and scared the farmers.
Most of them keep goats, like Javier Prohyens and goats are their only source of well-being. People are afraid not only of attacks by chupacabras on their animals, but also attacks on children, because "if this animal attacks goats, it can kill a small child."
